Hi Friends

This is regarding the procedure for getting a DIN number for a US Citizen residing in India with a PIO card and a PAN Card.
  1. The DIN instructions say that for foreign nationals, the ID proof has to be a passport. What if the US citizen has a PIO card and a PAN card? Can we get the DIN number with the PAN card as ID proof for a foreign national?
  2. The DIN instructions also say that the proofs of a foreign national have to be attested by the Indian Embassy abroad and notarized by a foreign public notary. What if the foreign national is residing in India? How should the attestation of proofs be done?

Thanks

Hameed

For obtaining DIN for foreign nationals, Passport is mandatory, though such person is residing in India. Further the DIN instructions speaks about the address proof, which is in the language other than English. In such case only, the translation copy of the said proof needs to be attested by local notary of the country where the foreigner resides.

The DIN instructions say that

In case of foreign nationals, passport is a mandatory requirement for proof of identity.

In case, the director/ designated partner is residing outside India, then the attached supporting
documents should be attested by the Consulate of the Indian Embassy, Foreign public notary.

If the foreign national is residing in India and also has a PAN card, can the proofs be self-attested or should they be notarized by the foreign embassy in India - for getting a DIN?

Thanks

Hi Sakshi

I have a question on attestation of proofs for applying for the DIN number. For a foreign national residing in India, is it enough if the proofs are self-attested? OR is it required that the proofs must be notarized from the foreign embassy in India?

Thanks

simply procure these documents from the client:

1) passport size photographs duly self attested.
2) address proof duly apostil from the home country.
3) passport duly apostil from the home country. in case of foreign nationals pasport is mandatory. no other document is accepted by the roc.
4) declaration on rs. 10 stamp paer. u can send the declaration to the client via email and then take the signed copy print and notairse here in india.
