Dear Zaffar,

Postpone meeting means it has been carried onto next date and is cancelled on the particular day  but whereas adjourned meeting means it is carried on after a little time

Thanks & Regards

V.Venkat

There is a difference between ‘adjournment’ of a meeting and ‘postponement’ of a meeting.   To adjourn means to defer or suspend a meeting to a future date or time, another place, or indefinitely (sine die) or as decided by the members present at the scheduled time of the meeting.   To postpone means to put off a meeting to a later time; defer.   The difference between adjournment and postponement is that in the former a meeting is held at the notified date, time and place and put off to a future date, time and place, while in the latter a meeting is put off without holding it at the notified date, time and place.   In more simple words “in adjournment meeting 1 bar hoti hai or sab milta hai phir adjurn karta hain.   In postponement koi bhi formally nahi milta notified date par but time etc main change ho jata hai. For example through phone etc.

1. Cancel       - Meeting will no  more be held for the said agenda for which the notice of BM was sent.
2. Postpone   - Meeting doesn't accure and it was decided to held at any other timings or days before the meeting.
3. Adjourned - Meeting Called up and duly held but due some circumstance like insufficiency of quorum was decided to be held at some other day or timings.

hope will suffice the query,

Thanks for your response....

Actually my problem is that.....we have fixed the date, time and venue of Board Meeting and we have already sended notice and agenda to all director and before it is to be held, we received intimation that meeting is not going to be held on prescribed that due to unavoidable reason. so my question is that what term we exactly use.........is is cancelled or postponed?
