The brand name and the new logo of the ‘Unique Identification Number (UID)’, namely the ‘AADHAAR’ is the current hot topic in India. According to this number, every resident in India would be issued a unique number called as the AADHAAR.

All the activities regarding the accomplishment of AADHAAR are done by the planning commission of the ‘Unique Identification Authority of India’. The word AADHAAR could be described as the foundation or support, hence the government is trying to extend its support to people, via the UID number.
What is Aadhaar?

Aadhaar is a 12-digit unique number which the Unique Identification Authority of India (UIDAI) will issue for all residents including infants as a proof of identity and residence in India. It is not mandatory as of now.

No resident will have duplicate Aadhaar. The number will be stored in a centralised database and linked to the basic demographics and biometric information photograph, ten fingerprints and iris of each individual.

Advantages of Aadhaar

The Aadhaar will become the single source of identity verification. Once residents enrol, they can use the number multiple times – they would be spared the hassle of repeatedly providing supporting identity documents each time they wish to access services such as obtaining a bank account, passport, driving license and so on.
It will also provide governments with accurate data on residents, enable direct benefit programs, and allow government departments to coordinate investments and share information.

How to apply for Aadhaar number / UID?

Residents of India need to visit the nearest Enrollment Camp / Center and need to fulfill some formalities in order to register for an Aadhaar like filing an application, Documents Verification, Biometric Scanning of Ten Fingerprints, Biometric Scanning of Iris, Photograph.  After that, residents will get an Aadhaar number within 20 to 30 days.

The following documents will be required while applying for aadhaar / UID :
- Proof of name and photo identity
- Proof of address
- Proof of DoB (optional)

A camp was organised in our office for the same by Bank of India and
we all have applied for it.
Its a simple process
A simple form is required to be filled (attach id & address proof),
than they will take your photograph, iris scan & fingerprints ...oncle
its done, they will issue a receipt and after 60-90 days the
authorities will issue & send a UID card.
