To minimize the current window, press Command-M. To minimize all windows of the app in focus, press Command-Option-M. Or you can press Command-H which hides the application. Command-H will minimize your apps one by one, but it won't work on the last open one. Command-Option-H will hide all other apps but the active one.

Another relevant shortcut is to hold down Command+Option and click the desktop, which will minimize everything but an open Finder window. Doing the same and clicking on a dock icon will minimize every other window but that program (and open that programs window if it is not open).

You can show the desktop directly without minimizing windows. You can create an Active screen corner, a corner of the screen where, if you go, an action is performed. Go to System Preferences -> Mission Control -> Hot Corners (formerly Expose and Spaces -> Expose tab -> Active screen corners). Define one and choose Desktop from the combobox.

EDIT: This ShowDesktop app works like the Windows Show Desktop button... it will simultaneously hide/minimize all windows (with option to include Finder windows) with a single click on it's icon which you can put in the menu bar.

EDIT: Found an even better solution... Better Touch Tool has a "Hide All Windows" shortcut that works like Windows, where it actually minimizes and hides all open windows (unlike OSX default of just moving them off the screen). You can assign it to any keyboard combo or mouse movement... I have assigned it to "OPTION_KEY + Move_Mouse_Into_Lower_Left_Corner".

My solution was to simply hold down cmd + option and Double Click just off the the side of the dock (i.e. double click on the desktop) to instantly hide all running applications and windows (oddly, except for Finder which seems to stay open).

The answers above taught me that hiding windows instead of minimizing them allows me to restore the ones I want with Command+Tab, which is great. But the only keyboard command I saw for hiding all windows was Command+Option+H+M. This hides all windows except for the one in focus. That one gets minimized (+M). This means that I can restore any app with Command+Tab - except for the last one - which still requires clicking its icon in the dock.

Clicking the desktop first, switches the app in focus to Finder, so then "all windows except the one in focus" becomes "all windows" (well, except for any open Finder window). Now I can hide everything (except Finder windows, sigh) by clicking the desktop, then hitting Command+Option+H, and restore any app with Command+Tab.

This applies to Snow Leopard: I went to System Preferences Keyboard Expose & Spaces (in the left pane). In the right pane you'll see Expos with a drop down and Spaces with a drop down. Under Expos you'll see "Desktop", if it's checked then F11 will minimize all windows and show your desktop.

his is the first time when VITEEE will be held as an online remote proctored examination (ORPE). This means that the engineering aspirants can take the exam from any safe place, as long as they fulfil all the requirement for the ORPE. To conduct the proctored test without glitches and malpractice, VIT has created a well monitored testing system at viteee.codetantra.com.

Online examinations are assumed to be easy, in which there is a scope for cheating and malpractice but VITEEE 2021 ORPE busts this myth. To access the test, candidates need an email id and password. However, apart from this, candidates also need the proper devices, environment, documents etc.

#1. Primary as well as secondary devices required: To take VITEEE 2021 test, students need a laptop / computer and a mobile phone. The test is to be taken at the laptop or computer but the mobile will work as a third eye and has to be connected throughout the test. If any of the devices is missing, candidates will not be able to take the test. The device should have an inbuilt webcam, if not, candidates can use an external webcam as well.

Candidates must not try to connect to any external device such as Bluetooth headphone during the test, this can terminate the exam. Also, while taking the test, candidates must not visit any other tab on any of the devices. Use of any other system or opening a new tab in the device from which the test will be considered as misconduct. Any attempt to do so or engage other devices or persons will lead to disqualification.

It is safe that only the mouse is used for navigation and answering since necessary buttons for navigation and answering are given in the user interface. Minimize the use of the keyboard. Use the keyboard only to type chat messages or to get support.

#2. Device specifications: The primary device can be a Windows / Linux / Mac desktop or laptop and the secondary device can be an Android / iOS mobile. The specification for devices are as follows:

#3. Net connection: A stable internet connection is to maintain during the test. The minimum upload and download speed should be 256 kbps. The test platform will first access the internet speed and only allow the test to start if the requirement is fulfilled.

If VITEEE ORPE is interrupted even for 5 minutes, the exam will be terminated. Candidates can request for re-scheduling if the test is not starting due to an internet issue. However, the retest will not be allowed once the applicant logs in and starts the examination.

#4. AI and faculty monitored: What sets VITEEE apart from the rest of the ORPEs is that in this exam, AI and VIT faculty will be monitoring students closely. Hence, any attempt of malpractice will lead to the cancellation of candidature or termination of the test.

#5. Environment: For taking VITEEE 2021, candidates must take the test in a quiet room fully protected from any external audio or video disturbances. They must not undertake the tests in public places. Also, ensure that family members are not entering the room while the test is going on.

#6. Oblige to the proctor: The candidates have to listen and follow all the instructions given by the proctor during the examination. Not obliging may result in disqualification. Candidates can chat / audio call the proctor to resolve any issue they might face in the exam. The candidates will be shown their proctor name, email Id, and phone number before the exam starts.

Proctors will do only the invigilation and will not clarify doubts in the question paper. If candidates feel that there is anything wrong with the question paper, write the session name, a few lines of the question, and the required clarification to [email protected].

#7. Appearing for the test: Candidates have to ensure that during the entire exam, their face is visible. Hijab can be worn but the entire face must be visible. Also, a mask for protection can be worn after showing the full face at the time of registration. Although candidates might have to remove the mask at intervals when asked by the proctor. Candidates cannot move from their seats once the test has started, thus keep a water bottle at the desk in case needed. Breaks for the restroom will not be allowed.

The average time for each question will be around 1 min. Hence candidates have to try to look into the primary device at least once in a minute. If they are working, they need to just glance at the screen once in a while or when asked to ensure that they are taking the test properly.

#8. Login time: The candidates need to take the test seriously and not be late in the login in process. While booking the slots of VITEEE, the time booked is the login time. Thus, candidates cannot afford to be even a second late. The candidates missing the login time will not be able to take the test at all.
