Firstly, download a copy of Visual Studio 2008 (Professional Edition)
that allows you to use it for 90 days free of charge, and includes
product key which doesn't need to be registered after installation.

I used Opera 9.50 to download the DVD image file
(VS2008ProEdition90dayTrialENUX1435622.iso) which was published as 3.3
GB but in fact, it was 3.4 GB, and it took five hours of broadband
connection time at data transfer speed of 128kbps.

As stated in its web site, Visual Studio 2008 Professional Edition
enables individual developers to create outstanding user experiences
and break through productivity challenges. The system requirements
are: Microsoft Windows Server 2003/Vista/XP operating system which
needs 1.6GHz Pentium III+ CPU, and 1 GB of available physical RAM. In
my case, I installed the core program (3.3 GB of hard disk space), and
its MSDN Library (1.5 GB of hard disk space) in Acer laptop running
1.86GHz Centrino CPU with 1 GB RAM on Windows XP Professional Edition
(Service Pack 2).
