Subject: Regarding Misconception
To:

Dear sir/madam,

I think that, I should write this e-mail in advance before start of semester but anyway, let's apply from now.

Books and Reading Material prepared by our faculty members are primary sources for students to prepare for exams. Don't use any cheap books (cheap in terms of price and quality of content). Refer the books prescribed by GTU and available at the end of syllabus on our website. The goal behind cheap books is JUST SELLING ONLY.

One of the examples I want to mentioned here: In "Computer Algorithms" subject, Brassard & Brately book is considered as one of the standard books. One numerical is solved in one of the cheap books where steps shown are not following the theory written just before this numerical (inconsistency between theory and numerical) while in Brately book, complete logical and understandable steps are shown for same numerical and then answer is derived (answer in both books is different).

The point I want to convey is, standard books are written after getting the concepts behind research and that is why they are accepted by universities and colleges in their curriculum. We want to produce Engineers not the people who just forget the definition after coming out from exam hall. Short-cuts in life are not good if by following it we miss the learning or we learn wrong things.

Of course, in some of the standard books, representation/language looks tough for students initially (because till now they are following short-cuts) but there role of a teacher comes. He/she has to go through the content and convey to the students in a way students can understand (concepts remain same).

Let's start this practice in our teachers and students so that it reflects in result of students as well as in competitive exams and in interview faced by students.

Circulate this in all the faculty members so that they realize the matter and start to bring our students on right track.
