P4 HMAC Question

You say we can design our own or use the standard HMAC algorithm. 

The HMAC ones that I see online all use inner and outer padding. Do we have to use the ipad and opads in our algorithm? It seems to me that it would still technically be an HMAC algorithm without those. Please correct me if I am wrong!

Yeah, use the pad if you want standard HMAC, or if you do not, that would be ok too.
