JSF vs. Servlets

Is it OK (with respect to grading for full credit) to use JSF facelets for the entire application and let FacesServlet handle all the controller work as opposed to writing custom servlets that extend HttpServlet?
We have a lot of code with custom servlets but are having some issues with redirection.
