I am looking for two Ph.D. students interested in working on computing
with trust. The projects will involve developing and evaluating algorithms
for computing trust in social networks and using the results to improve
the functionality of systems like email, social tagging, and information
filtering for the military. Programming will be required, but the position
is primarily research-based, so students should have a strong interest in
developing new methods, writing papers, and publishing results.
The projects have strong basis in both AI, HCI, and web science with
potential to lead to dissertation topics in any of these areas. Examples
of my research related to these GA-ships can be seen on my website,
http://www.cs.umd.edu/~golbeck
The positions will begin in the Spring 2009 semester with possible
long-term extensions. They will include stipend, benefits, and tuition.
Please send a 1-2 paragraph statement of your research interests and
experience to Jennifer Golbeck at jgol...@umd.edu and include your
CV/resume. Please do not describe your professional programming or
non-research industry experience in your email. Research skills are the
primary qualification for these positions.
