Software Engineering Researcher
Description:
As a Software Engineering Researcher at ABB's US Corporate Research Center
in Raleigh, NC, you will contribute to the global research activities
surrounding the investigation of new technologies, methods, and tools to
make ABB's software development activities more efficient and effective
throughout the product lifecycle. Research areas include requirements
engineering, design, modeling, verification and validation, maintenance, and
evolution. In addition to short term improvements with ABB development
teams, you will be participating in empirical, applied research that
advances industry best practice.
Key challenges will include:
. Delivering measurable business value by leveraging cutting-edge software
engineering methods and tools from academia, industry, and ABB business
units . Participating in technical conferences and collaborating with
academia on publications and inventions to enhance ABB's technological
leadership in software engineering practices
Technical Skills:
Applicants should have a deep understanding of software engineering
methodologies and their practical application to software systems
development. Experience in developing and applying these methods in a real
industrial setting is a plus. Applicants should have an interest and
willingness to advance software engineering knowledge through additional
study, technical research, and work assignments. Applicants with additional
training and knowledge of formal experimental design are encouraged.
Product experience in the domain of dependable systems, embedded systems,
and real-time systems is beneficial.
The applicant should have knowledge and experience with several of the
following languages / technologies: Microsoft .NET, C, Visual C++, C#, Java,
XML, COM, HTML, Windows XP, VxWorks, Unix, databases, non-proprietary (open)
operating systems and tools.
Personal Skills:
. Ability to interact effectively with a global team and in culturally
diverse environments . Excellent skills in facilitating and managing
technological change by coaching and mentoring . Good written and verbal
communication and teaching skills . Credibility/accountability in delivering
on commitments . Creativity and innovativeness
Education:
Applicant should have a PhD in Computer Science or Engineering, preferably
with 2+ years experience and recent publications; MS degree holders (with
experience and publications) or current PhD candidates may be considered.
