Hey all!
Welcome back to school or welcome to school if you're a new student. I'm excited for this semester to start because we have some amazing activities already planned for February. GET THESE ON THE CALENDAR NOW! please.
ps. i know this is a long email but please take the 3 minutes and 42 seconds to read it all the way through. thanks.
Here's the lowdown on upcoming events (also posted on the February Calendar to be given out at our first meeting):
(1) THIS WEDNESDAY, January 27th, during/after Wednesday night dinner (say 6:30 or 6:45): first Community Service meeting, it will be really short. just handing out the full calendar for February and answering any questions. Plus getting to show our smiling faces to each other. at the Catholic Student Center.
(2) MONDAY FEB 1st, 3:30pm-8:00ish: first Peace Camp Trip, meet at the bus stop outside of Stamp to go to the CP (College Park) Metro station, teaching non-violence to inner-city kids
(3) FRIDAY FEB 5th, 7-10pm: first Spellman House, hanging out with the wise folk at an elderly home near CP, meet at the CSC (Catholic Student Center)
(4) SATURDAY FEB 13th, starting at 10am - CSC SERVICE DAY, show some love on Valentine's Weekend to our home away from home, lots of manual labor and easy dusting to be done, bring friends! free lunch provided!
(5) FRIDAY FEB 19th, leave campus at 2pm from Stamp bus stop to go to metro station, help elders in DC clean up/organize their homes, we will be working with a horder so come prepared for dirty work and a really fun guy who used to teach college level speed reading --> maybe he can teach us a thing or two for our classes this semester!
ALSO- NEED SOMEWHERE TO GO THIS SPRING BREAK? FOCUS is planning a mission trip to New Orleans. Contact for this is Kyle Ludvik. You can find him on facebook or around the CSC. I believe their information meeting is also this Wednesday so plan to hop from meeting to meeting for all the information.
If you have any ideas as to how to help Haiti that doesn't involve raising money (since most college kids don't have tons of that) let me know. Or if it does involve raising $money$, maybe think of ways to broaden our contacts.
FINALLY- if anyone is interested in helping me publicize events around campus, let me know. I can advertise and make the contacts through the CSC networks but I would love to get the word out campus wide. I'm thinking chalk on the sidewalks and flyers for all our events. Or at least some signs around campus that tell students where to find us on facebook. ANY TAKERS?
See you Wednesday!
Love and prayers,
Emily Dillon
