Hey everybody!
I hope your Halloween was spook-tastic. I'm excited to announce that our first month of service has now officially begun, considering that it's now November and all. First and foremost, I want to thank all of you that came out to our meeting last Wednesday. You guys contributed really well to ideas for December and for next semester. For those that didn't come, we had a great turn-out and I'm sorry that I missed out on your opinions. Some of the high lights from the meeting are as follows:
(1) MJ Park from Little Friends for Peace came to talk with us about our service with her this November. She was a very calming presence and got several students to sign-up that day to help with the program this November.
(2) We discussed upcoming plans for November. The calendar and newsletter handed out at the meeting are attached to this email. You can also find them on the CSC website and on our google-page. Please look them over and email me if you find something you would like to participate in- send me your name, phone number, email, and date of service.
(3) We decided to continue service only through the first week of December and then stop for exams.
(4) A Knights of Columbus Representative graciously agreed to run the Thanksgiving Food Drive for St. Marks this month. Thanks! Please bring non-perishable food to the CSC to support this cause.
(5) We discussed upcoming plans for next semester:
- an inter-faith service day with students from the Jewish student center
- a senior prom at one of the senior centers
- a large service day in DC with Elder Buddies (check out the calendar for organization description)
(6) I listened to organizations you want to get more involved in. These include: Little Sisters of the Poor, SOME, Food and Friends, and Bread for the City. There was also interest in an angel christmas tree for December. Maureen volunteered to run this so look for this program the CSC around Christmas time.
(7) Calendar modifications: the Knights of Columbus event- need to be at the CSC at 6:25 not 6:45 if you want a ride in Mike Sullivan's car. Otherwise you can take the metro. There is also a chance that another Elder Buddies event will be put on the calendar for the middle of November. Stay tuned,
(8) There is a Habitat for Humanity trip to North Carolina slated for the last week of this winter break. Go to the CSC to turn in your $50 deposit soon if you're interested.
So let me know if you can come to any of the service events this month. My goal is to have everyone to participate in one. Let's make this happen. :) Shoot me an email when you figure out which one. Also let me know if you have any ideas for future activities. I look forward to meeting all of you this month. Our first service day is tomorrow with Little Friends for Peace. Arrive at the CSC at 3:30. Let me know if you plan on coming but show up if you get some unexpected free time tomorrow.
Thanks for making the world better,
Emily
