Cruise Description

Come join us on a cruise around Alameda Island and pass under its 6 historic draw bridges.

29thaveBridge

Each has its own unique construction and operation along with a fascinating history, see the link below:

We'll also be passing through a body of water that most don't know about called the San Leandro Bay. Expect to see vast quantities of bird and other wildlife as the health of the bay continues to improve thanks to the efforts of environmental crusaders.

We will go around the island clockwise (and we'll talk about why this direction as we're sailing).

This will be a long cruise, about 25 nm. We'll go under the Bay Bridge to the east of Yerba Buena Island and stop at Jack London Square on the way out for a picnic lunch. After that, we motor through the drawbridges, navigating the largely unmarked and narrow channel at the south end of the island. Then we're on the open Bay for the return trip. Depending on wind and time, we'll have the choice of which way to go around Yerba Buena/Treasure Island.

We'll meet at the Club at 9:30am to get gear and go to J Dock for a 10:30 departure. We'll leave Jack London Square around 2pm and should be back at the Berkeley Marina by 6pm (but don't count on it, so don't make any evening plans).

Elyakim and I will be taking two boats.  One special ask is to please be Covid vaccinated.

I will send out more detailed instructions once the lottery is completed and the final crew list has been assembled.

Out of consideration to fellow club members who may be on the waiting list and to skippers who work hard organizing these cruises, only sign up if you (and your guest) are committed to attend. If, due to unforeseen circumstances, you must subsequently cancel, remove your name (and guest's) from the cruise sign-up list asap, even if you are on the wait list. We have had too many cases of people signing up and canceling at the last minute, or simply not showing up. This is not cool; don't do it.
