Teachalong Focus: Tips for teaching first time students for first time teachers

The next Teachalong will be on Saturday, February 7 at ~1:30 pm, following lessons. It will focus on preparing first time or very new junior instructors to teach on-the-water sailing lessons at CSC. A Teachalong is an intensive workshop on teaching for three unique groups: a practice student, a new-to-teaching learning instructor and an experienced teaching instructor. Groups of 3s will learn and explore different ways to teach a particular skill, on land and on water.

The workshop will begin with a moderated dock talk, followed by about 1.5-2 hours on the water. The goal of the workshop is for learning instructors to gain hands-on experience with teaching a practice student, under the support of a more experienced instructor.

Fill out this form if you would like to be a learning instructor
For the purposes of this workshop, a learning instructor is someone who has not taught very often (or at all!) at CSC, and would like support so that they can teach more regularly.

If you would like to sign up to be a practice student (unrated or novice), you can sign up for a lottery here: https://cal-sailing.org/dinghy-teach-along

If you have any questions, please contact one of the pedagogy co-chairs, Emma Chrisman or Mo Johnson León, on Slack, or by email: pedago...@cal-sailing.org
