Just to let all cal sailors know that Trilbus sadly passed away on July
20th, 2025. In his memory, we are running an all day Regatta on the 31st
of Aug (The Trilbus Regentin Memorial Regatta).
Trilbus was a key
member of the Cal Sailing Club community for many decades (membership
number 82!), and a familiar face at Sunday racing. This event will get
lots of people out having fun on the water - one of Trilbus' favorite
things, and give us all an opportunity to share our favorite stories
about him and his contributions to the club.
More details in the sign up spreadsheet but briefly: Meet
at 9:30am. 5 races before lunch. Then come ashore for lunch (sometime
between 12:30-1:30). At 1 pm, we will gather on the bench and read
Trilbus' obituary (I have attached here for those that can't make it),
and folks who knew him can share some of their favourite stories. We
will then go back on the water for another 4-5 races, before coming
ashore for a prize giving, probably around 3pm.
Racing
will take place in two fleets, with 2 starts separated by 3 mins. The
blue fleet is for experienced racers sailed in JYs and Lasers, and the
yellow fleet (sailed in Quests) provides an opportunity for some newer
racers to get out on the water (criteria laid out in the spreadsheet).
The winners of the blue and yellow fleet are viewed equally, and there
will be a high stakes, rock paper scissors contest between the winners
of the two fleets for who gets to take the memorial trophy home.
If
anyone wants to get some volunteer hours in, it would be great if we
could have someone keep score. Can do just morning, just afternoon, or
both. Message me for more details (no experience required, just someone
who doesn't get seasick!).
Sign up here! Although it says crew and skipper, happy for people to swap over and they will be a winning 'pair'. Also,
Please visit the racing Slack Channel for updates on the race as well as to ask any questions you may have.
