Can anyone give me clues as to how I would go about unpickling a string? I know it depends on how I chose to save it, but I can't see how I can solve it using recursion. Totally stuck. Pleaseee, help :)

I would use recursion whenever I see a list i.e make recursive call with that sub-list and pickle it, then in the end append all string segments together. For unpickle:  whenever see a delimiter which signifies start of list then make a recursive call to parse that sub-string which is a sub-list and append all sub-lists in the end to form final list
