Hi, Im coming over from another softare product. Currently every time I scan an item with my barcode scanner I get an audible beep to confirm the item has been read and added to the current transaction. Also, when I cash out the transaction I hear and audible "cha-ching" like an old cash register telling me the sale has been completed. Is there a way to turn on such audible confirmation tones in Square? Thank you.
Hi, RHatch, while the Socket scanner does make a sound itself when it reads a barcode, there is no sound made by the square software to indicate that an item has actually been added to your current check. My last software would make 2 seperate sounds coming from the ipad, one for when an item was recognized and a different sound for when an item was not recognized. With Sqaure I have no idication either way if the scanned item registered, hence my desire to have such a tone from the Square software played over the ipad speakers. I wish there was a way to turn on such sounds. Thanks, Rick

I just got the VI and I have aquestion: is there any way to have the string control active, when I run the VI ? As it is now, I must click it, in order to make it ready to get the data I read from the barcode.
If using it with a Mac, follow these steps: 1) connect it to a USB port on your Mac (the scanner should beep twice). 2) Go into System Preferences and click on Keyboard. 3) Click "Change Keyboard Type..." which will bring up the Keyboard Setup Assistant. 4) Click Continue and scan a barcode (can be a UPC label from a package / book). 5) Select "ANSI (United States and others) and click Done.
We were having the same issue and came across and article that told us to scan in 4 barcodes. It didn't act like it did anything but when we scanned a barcode it worked. We are using a Intermac SG20T barcode scanner that is plugged into my USB port.
Plug in the scanner, it should beep a couple times to show the scanner is powered up. It should bring up the Keyboard Setup Assistant, click continue. It asks for you to click the button to the right of the left shift button, just scan the four barcodes (which doesn't seem like it is doing anything) then go to any text field and scan a barcode and it should work.
At step 4) above you may feel you are stuck at the keyboard recognition step as it looks for you to select the "key the right of the enter key" however simply scanning a barcode at this step allows you to continue. Note that the scanner light is aways on!
My Mac recognises the 'keyboard' (the barcode scanner), I scan the Output barcode in the manual, selected a keyboard standard, and it now outputs the EAN number from products into TextEdit, but how do I make it do something else, such as open my default browser and search Google or search a product inventory app for the code? I've seen other barcode scanners do it, so I'm hopeful it's possible with this scanner.
Any new developments on this? Seems to be a common problem with barcode scanners and macs. I'm trying to install an eclipse barcode scanner. I get the keyboard setup screen. When prompted to press the key next to shift I scan a barcode and nothing happens. Most forums I've found say that this should cause the assistant to move into the next step but, in this case, it doesn't.

Scanning quality - The image quality the barcode reader scans at. A higher quality is good for small barcodes, but could lead to slow performance. On Windows, the barcode reader will always scan at the device's camera quality. Default: Automatic.
The barcode scanner is a button that doesn't display the scan result. Consider showing the scan result with a Label control. Set the label's Text property to First(BarcodeReader.Barcodes).Value where BarcodeReader is the name of the barcode reader control. Set the label's Live property to Polite so that screen-reader users are notified of changes. This change makes the scanned value accessible to everyone, irrespective of visual ability.
Users who have visual and motor disabilities might prefer not to point the camera at a barcode. Consider adding another form of input, such as a Text input control, for users to enter barcodes.
The barcode reader control doesn't support Select(). As a workaround, set the barcode reader fill color to transparent and put it in front of the control you wanted to select the barcode reader with. This will result in the same experience for the app user where selecting the control launches the barcode reader experience as they will be selecting an invisible barcode reader button instead of the actual control.
