Normally GSED takes place in-person with numerous hands-on activities available to the participants. However, the event has been held virtually on Zoom since 2020 due to the COVID-19 pandemic, making this spring event the 4th consecutive virtual GSED.

The trick, most likely, will only work this once. Pedophiles are evil, but they're not all stupid. Few will be fooled a second time by a virtual Filipino 10-year-old in a chat room willing to do their sordid bidding for pay.

POP/STARS is performed by K/DA, a band which, in the virtual world at least, consists of League of Legends characters Ahri, Evelynn, Kai'Sa, and Akali. In reality, however, their vocals are provided by a cross-continental line-up of accomplished music stars: US-based Madison Beer and Jaira Burns, and Miyeon and Soyeon from K-pop girl group (G)I-DLE.

You can see the virtual K/DA strutting its stuff in the video above, and you can watch POP/STARS' real-life stars performing the song (along with some slightly creepy AR accompaniment) below, recorded during the recent League of Legends World Championship opening ceremony in Incheon, South Korea. That one's at 10 million views and counting.

The best thing League Of Legends has done in years is create a virtual girl group, who now have a whole EP out. After years of ha-ha-hilariously cheesy promotional songs like Warriors with Imagine Dragons, Riot's music team unexpectedly hit the big time in 2018 with K/DA, a group with real singers in the digital bodies of pop-ified alternate reality versions of League characters. K/DA's debut song, Pop/Stars was straight-up a banger, and found play far beyond esports stadiums. Today K/DA's first EP, All Out, launched and I think it's time Riot give up League to focus on pop.

It's good! K/DA's animation is weird though, not like real bodies. I mean they aren't real bodies. But should virtual stars aim for real? Is the queer feeling of the uncanny valley meant to amplify enjoyment of their unreality? It's especially jarring contrasting their dancing with their 'candid' gestures and expressions of intimacy. Is the fakeness part of the fun? I may be too old to answer these questions.

K/DA are a virtual girl group who share names and faces with League characters, but in the K/DA reality these women are pop stars instead of wizards and murderers. Except! League's newest wiz, Seraphine, was first introduced singing with K/DA and in the game's fiction she actually is an aspiring singer. And the More video is about her dreams of stardom? I'm losing track of the barriers between worlds. So to remove any continuity concerns, perhaps it's best Riot knock the whole 'League Of Legends' bit on the head and focus on their strengths: pop.

Hello everyone, my name is Venus and I manage an online virtual girl group called VReality. We are searching for just one more (maybe 2 if it's the right fit or if you and a friend want to join) member(s) who can sing.

My role in the group is to manage them, book gigs, mix and write the music. I also am in charge of the creation and the movements of the avatars. Bonus points if you can write music but not required. Also bonus points if you know Korean and/or Japanese but also not required! The group is completely virtual using avatars who dance and perform as the faces of the group. (Think Vocaloids without the autotune voices). We are looking for people comfortable with their voices and can hit high notes.

In my opinion, there is a dichotomy between the virtual and natural worlds. Nature has definitely become more valuable than before. Particularly in the wake of the pandemic, the value of being offline has increased as well. But on the other hand, there could be a new way of connecting to nature through the online universe as well. Also I feel that the line between online and offline will become clearer in the future. In the near future, I will open my house in the digital world to the public, and I dream that many people will visit that house and something new will be born from that world.

Virtual is Virtuous! was the popular slogan way back in the 2030s. The Chinese, with their laudable one-family-one-child policy, offered their vast computerate population virtual babies in addition to the permitted single physical offspring. Such was their automated skill at reading and blending parental DNA! Of course a sensible sex ratio was maintained. Realboy for every family, virtual girl; no no.
