What time are the rest of you who are considering coming to a Spiritual Playa-like experience at Burning Man available for a call this weekend?
(See Susanna's message below)?

Yes, I could be present at any of the times Susanna mentions below:
Friday January 23, 3 PM to 4 PM Pacific
Saturday January 24  3 PM to 4 PM Pacific
Sunday January 25, 3 PM to 4 PM Pacific

What time are the rest of you who are considering coming to a Spiritual Playa-like experience at Burning Man available for a call this weekend?

By the way I have a new conference call line set-up for it and will announce the details as soon as Susanna has picked the time.

The new conference call line has features such as access via a web URL,   availability of the conference line to Skype callers, and a record and playback feature that will allow folks not able to attend the call "live" to listen later at their convenience.

Love to all,
Loren Meissner, CS

Hello,

Could we please hold off on conversation with the Mother Church on behalf of the group and moving forward with projects at Burning Man until we have a group call.
The call will allow us to talk about a few things: the different ideas from the group regarding possible expressions of CS at BM, ways of making decisions with a democratic process, the importance of having an agreement that everyone can get behind since the topic is the representation of CS at BM etc.
The goal of the meeting is to achieve an understanding of what each person would like to see happen and how we can work together to move forward with harmony.

Would you be available for a group call on Friday, Saturday or Sunday 3-4pm?

Lovingly,
Susanna

Dear Berkeley CSO,
On behalf of my family and I, I wanted to write a letter of great thanks for allowing us to stay overnight one night unexpectedly this past Saturday. We had thought we were able to stay in Foster City, but at the last minute the family who we were staying with told us we wouldn't be able to.

We thought about driving all the way back to Los Angeles through the night, but had already scheduled to meet with some of the Burning Man team in Berkeley in order to wrap up thank yous for the 2014 outreach the following day. Bill was kind enough to allow us to stay when we showed up at the Org at 11 at night or so and it was such a HUGE life saver!

It's this kind of Christian love and fellowship that really embodies the teachings of Christian Science. We had a great evening of prayer and solace, really cherishing the student body of Berkeley, the faculty and staff, and the many dedicated Christian Scientists who have come through the CSO and who have done untold prayerful work for our Movement and mankind. I also loved being able to read some of "Rolling Away the Stone: Mary Baker Eddy's Challenge to Materialism." It reminded me of some very unique and special reasons why Christian Science has an unmatched purpose in leavening human consciousness and the body of Christ.

During a reading of that week's Bible Lesson on Life we conducted before we went to sleep, this passage - in its full Scriptural context - had special meaning to us:

"God that made the world and all things therein, seeing that he is Lord of heaven and earth, dwelleth not in temples made with hands; neither is worshipped with men's hands, as though he needed any thing, seeing he giveth to all life, and breath, and all things; and hath made of one blood all nations of men for to dwell on all the face of the earth, and hath determined the times before appointed, and the bounds of their habitation; that they should seek the Lord, if haply they might feel after him, and find him, though he be not far from every one of us: For in him we live, and move, and have our being;" (Acts 17: 24-27).

Isn't this so applicable to the Berkeley and Burning Man communities?

We are preparing for a special type of outreach this year at Burning Man which is going to be different from years past. We have been contacted by the Mary Baker Eddy library about setting up an Art Installation on the playa featuring The Pastor (The Bible and Science and Health) as the priority focus of our sharing Christian Science. We don't know if we will have a Christian Science lecturer again this year, but we are open to exploring the options. We feel this inspiration is an evolutionary step for our outreach and will help to reach more people with the Science of Christ unspent.

I just sent in a proposal to them and am waiting to hear back, but we would love to collaborate with the CSO in preparing for this installation. It is not necessarily going to require the attendance of CSO members at Burning Man (although they are welcome to go!) but rather planning ahead of time to prepare and design the art installations, store them, and then get them out to Black Rock City.

I'm including the proposal for the art installations that I sent to the Mary Baker Eddy library below and would love to hear your thoughts on them as a CSO. It appears as if our Burning Man group from the past is separating a bit like Abraham and Lot - on good terms - but part of the group will be focusing on interfaith foot washing without the Christian Science label and our group will remain committed to specifically sharing Christian Science. If you'd like to help us make this happen, we'd really appreciate whatever support you feel inspired to offer! And, as always, please pray for this outreach and for The Burning Man Art festival!

Here is the art installation vision:

Our vision for this art installation is to feature The Pastor of the Church of Christ, Scientist by setting up seven interactive podiums across the Playa each featuring a section of that week's Bible Lesson as well as the Golden Text and Responsive Reading. Each podium would have a different design based on one of the synonyms for God found in Science and Health and a different instrument for participants to use to musically engage with the texts if they choose (trumpet, harp, psaltery, tamborine, acoustic guitar, melodica, and loud and high sounding cymbals, Psalms 150).

We had some awesome experiences last year with setting our marked books in the busiest part of the Playa (Center Camp) and having dozens of people come up to them, read them, shake a tamborine placed near them, study the books, and then walk away. It was really inspiring to see how The Pastor speaks for itself!

We also envision a "Great Wall of Healing" installation that would span a part of the playa and include a paper mache collection of healings from old Christian Science periodicals and space for people to share their own healings and add to the art project.

One last idea, a little more far-flung and difficult to pull off than the others, is having a digital recording of a reading of "The Sermon on the Mount" from many different cultures, languages, backgrounds, etc. that would be accessible via solar-powered speakers. It would enable people to use their own voices and participate in the reading themselves citation by citation and create a kind of hodge-podge Sermon that would be video taped and recorded and be made available after Burning Man. We would stage a group reading of it on the last Sunday of Burning Man with many different people in different languages and translations.

As a part of being more formally organized according to the Manual of The Mother Church, we are considering becoming a Christian Science Society based on Mary Baker Eddy's loose vision for how a Society could serve the Movement. We are praying our way through this process (and have been for several years now!) so we would also love your prayerful support as we begin to think about the best way to move forward with this as an official Church activity.

After watching the film "Selma" on Martin Luther King Jr. Day, I was really touched by the theme song for the film by artists John Legend and Common. You can listen to it here: https://soundcloud.com/johnlegend/glory-ft-common One of the lines is, "No one can win a war individually, it takes the wisdom of the elders and young people's energy. Welcome to the story we call victory. The coming of the Lord, my eyes have seen the glory."

So that's the plan for this year - we need both the wisdom and the energy!

Lastly, here is a link to John Tyler's lecture on Conflict-Resolution at Burning Man last year. It was wonderfully received at the Center Camp. Hope you enjoy it!

Many blessings in Christ!
 Michael Morgan

Hi Loren,

I'm available today to be on the call. I won't be going to Burning Man but am interested in supporting it.
