We felt inspired to begin working on a flier to hand out to people on the Boardwalk, and then decided to get ready to connect with people on the Venice Boardwalk just a few blocks away. But suddenly the Reading Room librarian kindly offered us a deliciously prepared lunch. Right as we prepared to say grace and share inspiration from the Bible, a young man came into the room with tattered clothes and asked where he could get new shorts. The Reading Room librarian promptly replied with the address of an organization that specifically provides that service. We invited him to some food and study of the Word of God and he joined us. He asked us about the Science of Christianity and how anything Christian could be related to Science.
This opened up an awesome opportunity to explain to him about how Jesus was a scientist - in fact, the scientist. We explained how God's law IS a Science. That just as the rudiments of chemistry, mathematics, or biology allow the scientist to experiment and demonstrate at high levels of proficiency with most and more exact results, when a Christian lives and demonstrates the 10 Commandments, the Beatitudes, and the Lord's Prayer, they gain the ability to demonstrate the healing and miraculous works of Christ Jesus. For instance, we shared with him the story of Jesus turning water into wine in John 2: 1-11. The human understanding of chemical science says that work was impossible, but Jesus' understanding of Christian science allowed him to do it through selflessness and love. Then we shared with him some of his healing work. Medical science says healing happens through and by the body, brain, and neurons, but Jesus showed that Christian Science heals spiritually, metaphysically, above the human understanding of physics. Lastly, we looked at Luke 8: 22-39 where Jesus proves Christian Science to be more powerful than the science of meteorology when he calms a dangerous storm.
