Hi everyone,

Please take a quick moment to check over the front and back of the playa cards we're going to get printed to share this year.  We're sending them to the printer on Wednesday so please let me know today if you spot any typos.

We're heading to Black Rock City in 17 days!!!

Thanks again everyone for all your wonderful support.  Keep it coming! :)

Absolutely fantastic! It's so delightful, really joyful, to see the divine momentum with which CS at Burning Man is continuing to progress. I love these cards.

The graphics are very pretty, thank you very much for creating them! But the longer I look at the text, the more something cringes in me.

Life, Truth, Love should go with the words Christian Science, not Foot Wash. I would consider that a typo ..

I haven't been actively planning this year so it comes to me more sudden than to others that the whole theme is so heavily on footwashing when I thought it to be on Christian Science..

(Sorry for not being involved and then making comments last minute but it's better to get on the same page off-playa than on-playa.)

Is there a reason why Christian Science is left out? Should it be? My thought went to the same place. I think we have something wonderful to share that changes the norm when relating to Christianity. Being open and loving our neighbor is a beautiful motive.

I just relistened to Fujiko's longer talk at red lightening camp and it reminded me that our purpose in being at BM is to serve the community. In my mind, foot washing is an analogy for the error being dissolved away and the Truth coming to the surface, and it's something that we can give that is useful to everyone. However, I think we have to be careful in what we ourselves believe - are we shifting our focus on the material aspects because it may seem easier or do we have the courage to stand out, call ourselves a Christian Science camp, and let everyone be free to give to BM in the way that they feel impelled to give, rather than putting the emphasis on the physical act of footwashing. I by no means mean to undermine all of the great work that is being done, I just hope we can all get in the same page and work together to bring out the beauty and incredible practicality of CS.

It also came to me to share this story..Before I went to BM last year, I had stopped calling myself a Christian Scientist although I whole- heartedly believe in its ideas. And our experiences there, from the church service, to the talks, to being on watch at our camp, to the healing conversations that came out of footwashing and all of the adventures on the playa, and to rediscovering who we all are and connecting on a very real level with everyone in our camp, made me so happy to be a Christian Scientist and to continue to live the principles of it in my every day life after coming back to the "default world". I can't wait to go back and continue to experience everything the playa has to give and share Christ's love with everyone we meet.

As for the card, the design looks awesome and the fact that they're circular will help them stand out. The thing that doesn't resonate with me is that it says footwashing and life, Truth, love... How would you all feel about getting the words Christian Science in there instead? I'm happy with keeping the feet in the background - the design looks awesome.

Awesome graphics and message. Apropos to the community and "de-commodification" or default world labels. Welcoming to the many spiritually open minded people on the Playa.

Sometimes, soft-pedaling "Christian Science" without the label, is a good way to introduce people to it.

Thank you everyone for the feedback.  Attached is a revised version of the front and back designs for the 3" round cards, incorporating Christian Science Camp at Burning Man next to the Life, Truth, Love on the front as well as the church service times and locations on the back.

We're not trying in any way to hide our identity, or water down the Christian Science message and activity.  I think this design hopefully will resonate with the broad diversity of folks we meet at Burning Man and will be both welcoming as well as informative (and remind them of where to find us, our talks and our services).

One idea that also occurred to me today is that we can use one of our spare tents as a Christian Science Practitioner office where whoever would like to sit, talk, pray and treat anyone who comes to our camp who would like to take advantage of that as a focused (not foot-washing) activity may do so.  We have quite a few Journal listed practitioners in our group this year, as well as people who may not be Journal listed but would like the opportunity to embrace the Burning Man community in this way as well.

Thanks again for everyone's thoughtful and kind feedback, let me know if you see anything else that needs addressing with the card design as we'll be submitting them first thing tomorrow for printing in time for Burning Man.

With gratitude,
Gabriel

Thanks for being so responsive Gabriel!

I know that in the last two years we had inspirational quotes on one side of the flyer so if people take it home they have something that stays current and with them, since the other side with playa address and lecture times will no longer be useful information.

Do we want to add a Bible and a S&H quote? See attached pictures from last year, we dedicated one side just to inspiration and the other side to information (camp title and events). Currently one side has a lot of empty space (filled by two big feet :-) )

Do we want to offer healing through prayer (practitioner services) and a reading room (solemn place of quiet for prayer and meditation with books provided) ? If so we should advertise it on the flyer.

Do we want to add the talk topics? Seems crucial to me to let people know what the talks are about: Conflict resolution & Identity, correct? I'm not sure that I would show up to a talk without knowing what it is about..

Last year we had a designated blank space on the card that was supposed to be for our address but that we ended up using for personalizing the cards, notes, our email address / phone number to stay in touch with people etc, again see attached, I thought that was really useful in case we want to have it again.

If help is needed with this I'm available. Printing does get more expensive when the time gets shorter, or is there another reason why printing needs to happen tomorrow?

Thanks again!

Julian

Thank you for doing these cards. They look great. Here are my thoughts

I understand the issue with center camp and how it must have greatly impacted the design of the Flyers. There is a resistance there to christian science that we need to pray about.

I too always would tell people I was into metaphysics. Not wanting to poke people with my beliefs an say I am a Christian scientist. Or say I am a Christian Science practitioner. I would always temper the convo w metaphysics bc metaphysics seemed more socially acceptable than Christian Science. Now the story of peter denying Christs name has been impacting me and if people are contacting me for spiritual help who are very removed from the church, I can no longer deny my allegiance to Jesus Christ. I have to let them know exactly what's helping them. There are many gods, idols and paths out there...

I think we need to take advantage of the total acceptance environment at bm...and know that if they can accept everyone else thy can accept the true gospel of Jesus Christ. They can handle the name Christian Science being in johns title and lecture advertisement. We can't take a Tiffany ring and hide it in a brown paper bag. It is still a diamond ring.

I think it is the most loving thing to the Cs church that we really associate Cs w these awesome services and awesome thought.

It is the most loving thing to our visitors too to let them know the power is def not new age. (Many new age id with metaphysics but not Christ) It is coming from god through the only mediator, Jesus Christ. "For there is only one God and one Mediator who can reconcile God and humanity-the man Christ Jesus." 1 Timothy 2:5

In terms of what's loving for our camp and the dynamics between participants with regard to this decision and other ones that are on the horizon,  here is something we can all stand on.."make me truly happy by agreeing wholeheartedly with each other, loving one another, and working together with one mind and purpose." Philippians 2:2

What I love about our camp is the democracy and the equality we express. Thank you especially to those who have taken such a leadership role such as Gabriel who express so much flexibility and transparency. It's really special to be a part of.

Much love
Ansley

Loving the dialogue here folks. The purple blue red yellow flyers/cards are rocking. Really like the design and content.
