CPU (Central Processing Unit)

能夠執行電腦程式的電子電路。最基本的運作方式：Fetch、Decode、Execute、Write Back。

Microprocessor

在一顆IC上，實現CPU的功能。

舉例：Intel 8086。

DSP (Digital Signal Processor)

設計上專門用來進行數位訊號處理的microprocessor。

Computer

由CPU、Memory、IO device組成，能夠根據指令處理資料的機器。

Microcontroller (MCU)

在一顆IC上，實現computer的功能。

舉例：8051。

System-on-a-chip (SoC)

在一顆IC上，實現computer或其他電子系統的功能。可能包含digital、analog及radio-frequency的功能。

舉例：Infineon E-GOLD radio整合了baseband、mixed signal及RF的功能在一顆IC上。
