My school had the EV3 kit. What directions should I follow to get as close as possible to the Tribot for the NXT kit?

The standard build that comes with the EV3 soft will pretty much cover what you need.

I have an alternate build here if you're interested

Robotics is a challenging subject to teach, and Mindstorms helps to remove some of the difficult barriers and to engage kids quickly with fun and interesting projects.
