Kit no software and directions to build the robot

1. I have a kit but no software.

2. Which  instructions do you use to build your robot?  The kit has a brochure with steps to follow but sometimes it gets difficult to see which piece you can use.  Can anyone help me with easier directions.

The software has plans to build that my students use, but I also have them use the resource nxtprograms.com to build a few different bots as well.
