Hello Future FRI Mentors,
I want to invite you to apply to be an FRI Peer Mentor to new FRI
students beginning in the Spring 2012 Semester. As you probably
already know, mentors play a vital role in the FRI experience, and
being a Mentor is a great opportunity for professional development.
We will be collecting applications via the employment portal of the
CNS Career Design Center, Science Works. The position is posted now,
and we will be accepting applications until Friday, November 18.
In order to serve as an FRI Mentor, you MUST attend Peer Leader
Academy training in January if you have not previously attended the
August or January training session. We anticipate that an all day
session will be held some day between when the dorms open in January
and the first day of classes. You are expected to return to campus in
time to participate in this training. If you cannot, you should not
apply.
As part of the application process, you must file a resume on Science
Works. Having a current resume on file will allow you to be
considered for other employment and internship opportunities. The
Career Design Center ( http://cns.utexas.edu/careers/jobs ) has
resources to assist you in creating a very serviceable resume. Once
you have completed or updated your profile information and resume,
please apply for Job # 603 (Peer Mentor - Freshman Research
Initiative).
Information about Mentoring and links to the application process can
be found here:

Note that the application must be completed by November 18. We
anticipate that decisions will be made quickly thereafter, and
anticipate notifying all applicants by the end of November.
If you have questions about what is expected of mentors serving in a
particular FRI stream, you should contact the Research Educator for
that stream. Any general questions can be directed to Al MacKrell
(mack...@mail.utexas.edu)
Thanks.
