Hi,
The ACM International Collegiate Programming Contest (ACM ICPC) is the largest programming contest being organized all over the world every year. The ACM ICPC is an activity of the ACM that provides college students with an opportunity to demonstrate and sharpen their problem-solving and computing skills. The contest is considered to be the "Olympiad of Computer Programming". It is a two tier contest. The world is divided into six regions and Asia is a region. In Asia there are twenty two sites and Kolkata is one of them. There are more than 85 sites all over the world. Each site selects one team as winner of the site and will be eligible to participate in the world finals which will be held in May, 2017 at at Rapid City, South Dakota, USA. Please note that IBM is the global sponsor of the world finals. For more information about ACM ICPC, I request you to visit https://icpc.baylor.edu
An educational institute first enrolls its team under a site. A team consists of at most 3 contestants and a coach from the same institution. Generally each team gets 6 to 8 problems to be solved within 5 hours. A team can submit the programs in C, C++, Python or in JAVA. A team which can solve maximum number of problems with minimum penalty points is declared as the winner.
In case a site finds that there are too many teams registered in that site, it shortlists the desired number of teams from the enrolled teams through a preliminary online (internet) contest. “There will be a single online contest for all the four sites of India i.e. ACM ICPC Asia Region i.e. Amritapuri/ Chennai/ Kharagpur and Kolkata Sites 2016. All the teams willing to participate in any of these sites will have to register individually for each site. A separate result for each site will be prepared on the basis of the performance of teams (registered for that site) in online contest.” The above said preliminary online contest will be held on 08, October 2016 to shortlist the teams for participation in Kolkata Site.
The Kolkata Site contest is organized by National Institute of Technical Teachers' Training and Research, Kolkata, India and this is second time in a row that NITTTR, Kolkata is organizing this contest. This year Kolkata Site Contest will be held on 19 & 20 November 2016 at Kolkata, India. It is expected that about 600 teams from all over India, and from other countries in South and Central Asia, will participate at this site. Only those teams that qualify the preliminary online contest shall be eligible to participate in the Kolkata Site Contest. The last date of registration is 30 September 2016.
