I'm thinking about scaling back to one movie night, on Wednesdays at
7:30. Let me know what you think.
As for selection, high on my list are Saraband, the sequel/epilogue to
'Scenes from a Marriage', which we watched last semester, the 1933 b&w
King Kong, and Batman Begins. Of course, there are plenty more to
choose from.
Battle of Algiers: Netflix's recommendation system has been pushing
this on me for a while. This is a documentary from the 60's, but it has
really high scores.
Strangers on a Train: probably the most highly regarded Hitchcock film
I haven't seen. Murder, betrayal, intrique, etc.
Ikiru: An Akira Kurosawa flick about the life and death and a Japanese
businessman.
Wild at Heart: David Lynch directs this craziness.
The Player: Altman takes on Hollywood. Famous for introducing the 'It's
like die hard meets when harry met sally on a boat!' style movie-pitch
to the masses.
Repo Man: Cult Classic that I somehow haven't seen yet.
---------
In addition to movies I haven't seen, here are a few recommendations
from those that I have:
sex, lies and videotape - hopefully the title brings people in ;-)
Batman Begins - worth seeing two or three times, I think
Lone Star - I like this a lot, but I might be the only one...
Adaptation - Excellent Kaufman, with some really great performances
Run Lola Run - Movie as roller coaster
So I Married an Axe Murderer - Mike Myer's best pic
Mumford - Lawrence Kasdan is an underrated director, I say.
That Apartment - My favorite Billy Wilder comedy.
Clue - classic 80's comedy (directed by the guy behind 'yes minister')
