Help us ban wild animals in circuses
Dear friend,FOUR PAWS backs The Independent newspaper's campaign to ban wild animals performing in circuses
Government ministers are expected to announce a decision within the next week or so as to whether wild animals in circuses will be banned.
A Government consultation last year found an overwhelming 94.5 % of the public supported a ban. Recently the public were shocked and horrified by footage from an undercover investigation by Animal Defenders International that showed Anne the elephant being horrifically abused.
Countries which have already banned the use of wild animals in circuses include Austria, Bolivia (includes domestic animals as well), Costa Rica, Hungary, India, Israel and Singapore. Meanwhile Denmark, Sweden, Finland, and the Czech Republic have limited the use of certain species.
The government must not hesitate in banning the use of wild animals in circuses. The public does not want to see wild animals used for so-called entertainment.
If this opportunity is lost and a ban not secured, it means these animals will continue to suffer and we cannot allow that to happen.
