Hi.... I'm still pending approval over at hp-ohio, but I'm trying to
learn what I can about the Crystal Ball to see if it is something I'd
like to attend. See, I *think* I want to come, but I don't want to go
and then find out things like practically everyone else came as
couples, what the dress requirements actually are, and so on.

So these are my questions:

1. About how many people usually show up in couples? Seeing as how I
don't have anyone that would want to come with me to this kind of
thing, I'd be on my own. How welcoming is the group? I just don't want
to spend $75 and not have anyone that is willing to even talk to me
that night.

2. "Dress Robes"/Formal Dress. Define this. Half of the girls in GoF
were in regular prom-dress type dresses. I've got 3 of those to choose
from. However, if we're talking true HP inspired costumes.... I have a
Narcissa Malfoy dress which I'm collaborating with someone on that
will not be finished in time. If its HP inspired or more Victorian/
RenFaire kind of clothing, again, I wouldn't be dressed right, so no
reason paying if I would be out of place.

I'm sorry if I'm coming across as too forward- I just really want to
know about this before committing to it. :)

Thanks!

Sara

Sara,

I just went in and approved your account so you should be able to post on the forums now! :)

Let's see!

1)  We are aiming to sell 100 tickets for the ball this year.  We have about 40 sold I believe so we're nearly half way there and have just begun pushing it heavily with PR in various places.  I would say its a mix of singles, groups and couples.  What we'd like to do to get everyone talking is have a bit of a social at the beginning with a sort of icebreaker game to earn house points.  We're hoping that will get some of the folks from out of town or those who haven't come out to an event to meet one another and meet the members of hp-ohio who will be there.

2) By formal we mean you can come in formal muggle attire like a prom dress or evening gown as plenty of people last year did, but we also welcome fancy costumes of any era and imagination.  I'm working on making the one from Stardust (blue, bustle, bodice top) and some of my guy friends attending will be in Asha'man costumes from The Wheel of Time. Last year we had a lot of RenFaire type of gowns/costumes as well as ones that looked more robe like.  We did have some folks show up less dressy and I think that sort of threw off the atmosphere so we're trying to emphasis to folks to please have fun with it and get gussied up.  If you take a look at the pictures linked on the site you can see what folks were wearing last year.

I hope that answers your questions Sara and I hope we do see you at the ball!
