Dear Main Band members
Playing in the Crystal Palace Band family is, we hope, a great experience for everyone involved. Its really important that rehearsals and gigs are run safely so everyone can enjoy their banding. We've been reviewing our safeguarding policies and we need some Main Band safeguarding reps to make sure that we are following our own policies and keeping young people and vulnerable adults safe at all times.
So this email is to ask for a volunteer or volunteers from Main Band who can act as safeguarding reps. It will mainly involved ensuring that young people attending band leave safely, and acting as a chaperone at gigs where young people are unaccompanied.
You will need to take part in a Brass Band England online safeguarding training course (this is a 3 hour session, once every 2 years, and there are regular daytime, evening and weekend slots so it can fit in around work etc). You will also need to be DBS checked, and this will be done by the Band exec on your behalf.
This isn't a particularly onerous task but it is a really important one, and it would be great to have people who are not already involved in the setting up/running of rehearsals and gigs. It also doesn't have to be a playing member of the band - a parent or carer of a player is also very welcome to take this on, particularly for gigs.
If you would be willing to take this on - or have any questions about it before deciding, please could you email Liz Horsfield, who is the safeguarding lead for both bands, at safegu...@crystalpalaceband.co.uk
