I would like to share something of concern that has happened here last season and this.
Like most residents I’ve left my house unlocked but I’ve had several things taken from both house, 3 sun catchers hung from interior windows, and 2 extension cords and a rubber mallet from my shed.

Not all items have been taken at the same time.
Obviously an opportunist who knew when I was out.

This is sad as I’ve been visiting Crystal Lake for 22 years and never heard of theft.
My advice is know who has keys to your homes and maybe install security cameras.
How disappointing it is the need to resort to locking up to enjoy leaving my home.

So sad that happened, Linda. It’s a very personal feeling of violation.

When I first read your email, I thought “unlocked” was a typo. I very much hope everyone locks their homes, shed, and cars when leaving for the summer. We have had theft of items left in unlocked cars here at the resort before. I always lock mine.

I lock my house almost every time I leave except for the quickest of errands. Maybe it’s because I was raised in NYC, and I still think of my dear father double checking the locks saying “don’t invite trouble”.

Nothing says “no one’s here” like an empty driveway or a covered car. Trusting our neighbors is one thing, but it’s easy to walk into the resort for someone with malintentions.

I’ll clarify, it is during the season when my house and shed would be unlocked, while shopping or just in the park somewhere.

Linda, I’m shocked and sad you have been a victim too.

I am surprised to hear this but as someone who lived most my life in the New York Cuty area, my habit is to always lock my doors, even if taking a quick drive to the storage area. Better to be safe than sorry.
