I thought I had sent a message earlier, but evidently it didn’t go through. It’s definitely not an otter. I have watched it a lot and it is a fish, no doubt. It is weird, however that it floats half out of the water most of the time, but it was very close to shore, and you could definitely tell that it has a fishtail.

I think Don Foster hit the nail on the head. I believe this is an alligator gar. I looked it up and it’s half alligator half fish and I kept saying that jokingly thinking there was no such thing. But Dan sent me the name alligator gar And I looked it up and it’s exactly what it looks like. It swims on top of the water and lays there without moving on top of the water looking for prey. They can grow up to 10 feet and I said this one looks about 4 feet. I will call POA again today.

If I remember correctly about twenty years ago they stocked the lake with the fish (carps) that everyone is seeing now. They have been in the lake longer than most residents have lived at Crystal Lake RV Resort.

It does!   The fin sticks up when he is not swimming and he does have a long snout.  He stays on top of the water most of the time do carp do that? I never heard of a gar and I kept saying half alligator half fish thinking I was being funny. Josh thought carp too but he kept saying I never saw a carp swim so slow.  It just basically floats.   I don’t think that is carp.

I was just out at my shed and up on the bank was the Otter who then went into the lake. He/ she is about 25 lbs in my estimation. Unfortunately my camera was not with me. Seems we have a carp? And an Otter. Can we get the otter removed?I don’t want it to come after my little dog or destroy the fish and vegetation around the lake.Helen#2110

Just a reminder that the POA staff is not on and does not monitor this Crystal Lake Friends email chat forum as it is not an official POA communication avenue.  If you want the otter removed or anything else done at CL like the garbage issue raised earlier, you’ll need to go the POA office and speak with Scott, the manager.  Otherwise, "nothing will happen".

Yes, if I remember correctly, it was a sterile type of carp, known for eating weeds, that had an average life span of around 15 years. If it was 20 years ago, there probably aren’t too many left.

There may be otter going in and out of the lake. Also, there’s a large fish. Our tenant just sent a long video of it. It looks very similar (not exactly the same) to the grass eating carp that we put in our lake in Indiana. As they mature they get 3 to 4 feet long. As they are about to die, they spend their time on the water surface. This process takes a long time and usually the turtles consume the dead fish.

It’s not gone; it’s lurking, shrouded in the darkness of Crystal Lake’s deepest crevices.

It’s morphing, potentially sprouting legs like a salamander.   It will use your coach houses as breeding grounds until its offspring numbers become unstoppable.

This is why I bought off the lake.  The pavement is too rough for it to ooze across.

The only way to end this is to allow the alligators to thrive and eat what has clearly become our own Loch Ness Monster.  It will be like Godzilla battling King Kong.

One last-resort option is to sacrifice those children who trespass during summer to fish in Crystal Lake.   One child a month until winter should do it.  The creature stays at the bottom when it has a full stomach.

Come winter, we will have enough numbers to launch a hunting party of our own. We can put a harpoon on the Crystal Queen if it’s still in storage.

The crystal Queen is gone forever. However, as a certified scuba diver, i may use my underwater motorized craft to scour the bottom of both lakes-in search of this creature. Once discovered, I will notify my alien neighbors and ask them to dispatch this monster and suggest that we follow up with with a resort wide fiesta called “”The Monsters Ball”.  Of course, this sea monster will be served as the appetizer followed up with a main dish of carp, otter, or alligator gar which will be covered with a taranic sauce provided from the aliens home planet.

I miss that boat.  

And it’s probably a grass carp.  They’re invasive at my lake in Colorado.  They can be several feet, do that fin thing a lot,and can thrive in Florida.  See attached photo.

This is why I bought off the lake.  The pavement is too rough for it to ooze across.

The only way to end this is to allow the alligators to thrive and eat what has clearly become our own Loch Ness Monster.  It will be like Godzilla battling King Kong.

One last-resort option is to sacrifice those children who trespass during summer to fish in Crystal Lake.   One child a month until winter should do it.  The creature stays at the bottom when it has a full stomach.

Come winter, we will have enough numbers to launch a hunting party of our own. We can put a harpoon on the Crystal Queen if it’s still in storage.
