I can stream Netflix just fine when I play it using my Chrome browser. But, when I try to play Netflix using Safari (version 10.0), I get one or two frames of video, and then a black screen. I still have all of the controls and slider and I still get sound, but the video is just a black screen.

I just now tried it again using Safari, and got code S7363-1260-48444350 when trying to play a video. The code referred to an incompatible monitor. I tried again, and got the same issue as before, where I get a few frames of the video, and then the video goes black, but I can hear the audio and I still have control of the playback (e.g., play/pause, volume, etc.).

When I unplugged my external monitors and used only the laptop screen, the video played. So, I now know that the problem has something to do with my external monitors being connected to my laptop, even if I'm trying to play the video on my laptop screen.

Simple solution (os High Sierra) but Netflix have so far ignored my message! Forget all their solutions particularly concerning Silver Light, as that is no longer needed. This only began for me with Safari 11.0.1. I was able to connect using FireFox without issue so it had to be Safari settings.

Thanks, but I've already done an Internet search to find a solution to my problem. I've re-installed the latest version of Silverlight, and that hasn't helped. Also, Chrome works just fine with Netflix, which I think also uses Silverlight. I've also tried restarting the computer and the other typical non-specific solutions.

- I do get the display error thing (thunderbolt > VGA displays attached). Checked with develop tab if netflix works in safari 10 (don't see another version of safari in the list). However, if I select 'firefox: mac' and allow the silverlight plugin (that I just installed) then it works.

If the issue is the HTML5 player (since in older safari versions with silverlight, it does work), how do I force Netflix to use silverlight? It seems it always reverts back to HTML5, even if silverlight's installed.

vmcNetflix has given Vista Media Center users the ability to view Netflix Watch-Now streaming content on their Vista Media Center PCs and extenders for a while now, but today, the developer added on support for the new silverlight player being used Netflix. From the release 1.1.12 notes:

If using the Silverlight Player, it should automatically go to Full Screen once the movies plays. "Pause" and "Play" should work. "Stop" will close the player an return to the vmcNetflix app.

Above is the first release using the C# COM DLL that interface with jscript and an AHK script, the AHK script is based on what brainbones had implemented for SageTV - but I stripped it down to include some minimal functionality, for now.

It should be noted that this update was a joint effort by the developer of vmcNetflix and a SageTV user who created the ability to control the Silverlight, Netflix Player via Remote Control. The SageTV Netflix plugin will be using the same silverlight controls soon.

To resort back to using the Silverlight plug-in, you need to re-enable NPAPI support in your browser (Dragon or Chromodo).
A temporary workaround to enable NPAPI plugins is to type chrome://flags/#enable-npapi into the address bar and enter.
Select enable of the highlighted entry and relaunch the browser.

Hello everyone,
Unfortunately, Widevine CDM is not available in chromium right now. Many chromium and chromium based browser users suffer from this issue. Debianers are also uncomfortable with this situation, not to load WideVinew CDM PPAPI plugin into chromium. See 429452 - chromium - An open-source project to help move the web forward. - Monorail

The only workaround that we have and can provide is to install Silverlight plugin with enabling NPAPI support. I see that some of our users still have problems with this solution. Note that, Netflix recently changed its default video player to HTML5, you need to change it from HTML5 to Silverlight in your Netflix account settings.

Edit: I believe, I have to make it clear that why this issue is illegal in my opinion. Netflix is supposed to provide its service and its protected content through well known DRM vendors, such as Google (WideVine), Microsoft (PlayReady), Apple(FairPlay). Currently, there is no direct way for Chromium users in Linux to use Netflix service, who already paid for this service. The same situation is valid for all DRM protected contents, e.g. YouTube paid content. Google, deliberately or not, force users to use Chrome with these changes.

i have the same problem only with google store where i have 2 movies i cant watch at the moment because of the same problem.i am on dragon and chromodo since i refuse to go back to chrome when 3 non refreshing tabs in chrome eats up 7gb of my 8gb ram when i upgraded it ate 15gb of my 16gb ram when i upgraded again it ate 31gb of my 32gb ram and still its only 3 tabs that do not refresh. also i am having the problem that when i watch youtube videos that are just uploaded i cant watch 720p or 1080p untill 3 days later thats on chromodo on dragon and on chrome when are you going to fix this since it works fine on firefox and at the moment even microsoft edge is getting better than chromodo, dragon and chrome so when are you going to fix these standard easy to fix problems? and yes easy to fix since no other browser has these problems

I realize this is an older topic but is the exact same issue and I did not want to clutter the Forum.
Please let me know if I should start a new Thread if that is more helpful and I would be happy to. I did not need any specific help, merely submitting the information.

I am looking to create a business like Netflix and the only way i think I could manage to do it at present is with Wordpress, does anyone have any suggestions on which plugins may be required and or themes?

If you have to build the theme yourself I would ask if you could already do it with HTML/CSS/JS? If not you will have to get to the point where you can design and build the front-end so that it looks and works perfectly with static content. Once you do that, importing it into a dynamic WordPress powered site would be pretty simple.

Right so here is the deal, I am a front end developer and the front end for me is the easy part, in addition I have wordpress experience, the only problem for me is that I am worried I have never worked on something like this before, although I know I need a lot of research before embarking in this project.

Indeed I don't need something of the scale of Netflix, as I am well aware they have their own dedicated dev ops team, however I am looking to have something that works well, in future there will be potential for scaling the product of course, when enough revenue will be generated,

Are you using different versions of the videos for different encoding? If not, all you would do is just have a custom field that let you put in the direct URL to the video on the CDN. That would be the simplest approach. If you do have to deal with different video types then we're outside of my area of expertise for this since I've only worked with hosted video solutions that take care of the video players for you.

If it is something super similar to Netflix, I would say Wordpress may fall pretty short. Wordpress was originally created as a blogging platform, but evolved into a full CMS/Ecommerce solution that powers a lot of sites today. That being said, wordpress is not a great platform to build a custom web application off of. If you are looking to create a video streaming web application, it would probably be better to start off on the right path, maybe looking at something like Ruby on Rails.

Making a huge scale project, like a Netflix clone, will not be easy though. Keep in mind that they have had a full team of very talented engineers across all spectrums of computer engineering to create a video streaming service like that. Maybe spend some time on the business plan first, and focus on what the bare minimums would require for the service to work. Then work on those minimum specs to see if you can get something working and go from there.

WordPress could do this and could do it very well. A lot of changes have been made in the last 4 months or so to how WordPress gets data and handles data from the database. As I understand it from what I've read regarding WooCommerce and WordPress itself.

As for building it, that wouldn't be very difficult at all looking at it broadly speaking. You need to prevent users from accessing content without logging in and users can't login without a membership so yes, WooCommerce membership/subscription extension would cover that.

As for the video player itself, WordPress comes with HTML5 video player as of WordPress version 3.6 I think it was back in September 2013. You can work to style it as you please and it handles fullscreen well. There'll be a tonne of work involved to make it responsive.
