I am very upset that the latest dCS generation is not equipped with a remote control (having a good preamp on board). Even my old Debussy had a remote control included. Perhaps there is a cheaper alternative so that can control the volume using remote, not from Mosaic?
The latest dCS generation is equipped with an IR remote control. It just does not come as a standard accessory with all models , no doubt to keep the purchase price down and because the free Mosaic control offers an alternative.
Yes, but the dCS remote for Bartok costs 1/10 of its price
Despite the fact that Bartok is a replacement for Debussy, Debussy had the privileges of having a remote control in the box.
My question was that there may be an available alternative, for example, the Apple Remote, which can control the volume level in Bartok.
Universal remotes at their most complex are basically configured to serve home theatre systems. There is no facility to enter codes for e.g. filter, reverse phase, even the range of inputs that a dCS component has. They will certainly not offer pre-programmed options for dCS.
However there will be a volume control. You will need to programme this and can only do this using an existing dCS remote as the code donor. If you have access to one then even a cheap universal remote from a supermarket will suffice so long as volume control is your only objective.
The Philips Pronto can be programmed to serve all of the dCS IR control selections but this is a pain to do requiring details of the codes and a computer. In any case its cost is roughly in the same bracket as the dCS remote.
As for the Logitech Harmony and pre-installed dCS codes the viability of these may depend upon the generations of dCS DACs supported. I have checked the Logitech Harmony device compatibility database and support does not extend beyond the Scarlatti generation.
Just a tiny extra tip. If you do need to use Mosaic to adjust volume then use the full screen album view. The volume slider seems easier to use in that view though I agree it is fiddly. Someone was asking for + and - buttons instead for a future revision.
NB: The SCA2 remote uses Philips type codes but although pretty standard there are variations so that multiple devices in a single system do not all respond to the same command. I have an ATC SCA2 remote here and it will not adjust volume on my Vivaldi.
I am also using a Logitech Harmony 950 to control my Rossini (and the rest of my system). I programmed certain sequences to make functions available that consist of several commands (i.e. getting to the settings screen on the Rossini). Works perfectly
I have also been using a Harmony Remote on the Vivaldi stack and prior to that a Puccini Player in addition to the dCS remotes and now the Mosaic app. The Harmony remotes are very reactive, particularly for changing volume and work better for long distances and when there is not a clear line of sight to the Vivaldi.
One of the greatest inventions that a lot of people take for granted will have to be the universal remote. When you lose the original remote or you can no longer find a replacement for the exact remote, universal remotes from various brands out there come to your rescue. The cool thing about universal remotes is that you can easily program them and set them up to work with almost any TV, cable, or some other electronic products that you have.
There are two ways you can follow to program the remote to your electronic device. Whether you use a TV, a set-top box, or maybe even a DVD or Blu-ray player. There are two methods that you can follow to program the universal remote.
There are different models of GE Universal Remotes, and you can determine which model you have by removing the batteries from the remote and checking the sticker inside. Look for labels such as CL3, CL4, CL5, or CL6 on the sticker. Once you have found the correct one, the list of codes get short and you can find the correct code in less time.
I have found my manual for this remote control and have scanned it in and uploaded it to this website. You may download this manual freely. However, please consider donating a dollar or two to the House Rabbit Society of California. This wonderful non-proft helps rescues, rehabilitates, and homes rabbits. So if you find this manual useful please consider a donation.
By putting IR transmitter in pin 3 as IRrecord.ino suggestion by shirriff/Arduino-IRremote. I use a switch to blast ON code from different protocols until I hit the right code. The sketch will spell out the data I need.
Just a long shot but Samsung cellphones have an app to work as a IR remote. Find a friend with one, let him try to set it up on his phone. Then you can copy the codes with any learning remote or with an Arduino.
Program or replace your remote control using the Interactive Media Guide (IMG)
Using your Fios remote, you can program, replace your remote, or fix Fios TV issues, following the steps below:
Menu > Customer Support > Top Support Tools > select your option and follow the on screen prompts
First I tried to set the auxilliary button on my Time-Warner Cable remote to the Bose radio. The cable remote instructions list these codes for Bose audio equipment: 070, 170, 224, 374, 409, 460, 532. I tried them all, but none of them worked. So then I tried the scanning method, holding down the channel button until the radio turns off. But it never turned off.
I did an internet search on controlling Bose devices with universal remotes and found a plethora of contradictory information, none of which solved my problem. So I called Bose customer support. Their products may be pricey, but they sure have good customer support. I got someone on the phone immediately, and he was knowledgeable. He explained the problem instantly and gave me the solution.
Tip on using the learning function with the Bose remote: Holding down the volume Up or Down button is a different command than a single press of Up or Down. You need to program both into the universal remote.

Here is the capture I did on my samsung remote to update the TV.ir file in the assets folder. Make sure the naming convention is correct so that the universal remote will run the command with all the others ones in the TV.ir file.
And if the issue is getting codes - either try existing drivers as codes rarely change, of if that fails - using a Logitech remote see if they have codes. Between Logitech Harmony and C4 there's not really a device out there worth using that you can't get codes for....Logitech remote, just using the cheapest one, can easily be used to learn codes back to C4.
I spoke to customer services. They told me that I could purchase a small IR board which could be fitted internally in the TV in place of the RF board & of course I would need to purchase a remote control as well to learn the codes etc.
New TCL TV - Model 50S525. The Xfinity Cable box XG2v2-P shows only three codes for TCL to pair the Xfinity XR15-UQ to control the volume and power. Those codes are 12434, 11447, and 11454. Using these codes I receive the following onscreen information "Unfortunately, your TV couldn't be paired with your remote. You won't be able to use your remote to control your TV power or volume for now. Please try again later."
Hmmmm. . . I think I understand what you mean, that I should go through the steps, manually entering the Codes given to me by TCL , not selecting the Codes on screen. I'll try that and see what happens.
"slyway" . . . . . .the codes given in the Xfinity box would not work with my TCL -ROKU TV. I contacted TCL Support and was given additional Codes, of which one was the right one. My Xfinity Remote now controls the volume , power and TV Inputs.
Thanks for the compliment and your success story.....I'm glad everything worked out for you....I bought my TCL for my 78 year old sister in law and wanted to have as few remote controls as possible on her table. She has barely figured out the Xfinity Remote features....I'm going to wait a while before pushing her into the ROKU features.
I have a pair of BroadLink RM4 Minis set up in my house. (Both in the same room, due to the placement of devices they control.) I set them up in the BroadLink app to test them and make sure things work and that all the devices are responding to the IR controllers.
If you have the codes in the Broadlink app (cloud, not in app/phone) then you can set HA to learn and use the app to fire the command from the same Broadlink device to learn it in HA.
I suggest using the remote, not switch, switch based remote commands is easy to use and find but they take up a lot of space in the entity list.
Posting here not to create another thread. I have successfully added Broadlink RM4 Mini. I have managed to make it learn 3 codes. Today I wanted to add additional codes, but it does not read any codes sent from remote. I tried to debug it with python-broadlink and the only error I can find is the one saying that storage is full (see below). Integration is reinstalled, but still no luck. It works ok for the codes I have already in _codes file, but I am unable to add any new codes through learning. Any hints?
