Oneof Prime Video's shiniest offerings is a new Eddie Murphy-led Christmas comedy called Candy Cane Lane, which debuted on the first day of December. The streaming service also has an assortment of movies from Christmases past, including It's a Wonderful Life, Scrooged and the R-rated action movie Violent Night.
Peacock has at least two big things going for it this jolly season: Hallmark movies and The Grinch. If 2023 Hallmark holiday movies are what you're after, you can watch them live as they air on the East Coast with NBCUniversal's streaming service. You can also stream them on demand during a 72-hour period that starts the day after they air.
Max is a place to park your sleigh if you like classic Christmas movies. Elf resides here, as does National Lampoon's Christmas Vacation and A Christmas Story. On top of that, it offers the films A Christmas Story Christmas -- a sequel with Peter Billingsley reprising his role as Ralphie -- and 8-Bit Christmas -- an '80s-set comedy narrated by Neil Patrick Harris.
Last December, rather than just binging familiar Christmas movies like Elf, Home Alone, and Rudolph the Red-Nosed Reindeer, I spent the season with some Netflix films I'd never seen. They included a musical starring Keegan-Michael Key, a family-friendly fantasy with Kristen Wiig and Maggie Smith, and the animated standout Klaus.
Netflix has more worthwhile titles waiting under the tree. The R-rated film Love Actually is streaming, and you shouldn't skip the classic musical White Christmas. You can also type the following into your browser, and change the last part to the Netflix code 1394527 or 1474017 to see the corresponding collections of Romantic Christmas Movies and Christmas Kids & Family Movies.
Disney Plus lands on this streaming "nice" list for hosting Home Alone, The Nightmare Before Christmas and The Santa Clause, among other seasonal favorites. On the new content front, it's gifted users Dashing Through The Snow, a 2023 comedy starring Lil Rel Howery and Ludacris, and The Naughty Nine, a heist flick that first premiered on the Disney Channel and features Danny Glover as Santa Claus.
Apple's streaming service offers Spirited, a new-ish musical starring Ryan Reynolds and Will Ferrell. You may also want to pair your couch lounging time with A Charlie Brown Christmas or the 2023 special The Velveteen Rabbit.
Hulu took its festive selection up a notch on Nov. 23, when Elf, The Polar Express and National Lampoon's Christmas Vacation debuted on the service. You can also celebrate the season with The Muppet Christmas Carol and Miracle on 34th Street.
Fine with ads on your Christmas content? Tubi is among the services that offer titles for free with commercial interruptions. You can find options like The Night Before grouped together with other "Holiday Hits" here. (For a twist on Christmas, try horror movies like Better Watch Out).
If you're in New York and willing to brave the cold, you can join thousands of other holiday revelers and watch the 86th annual Rockefeller Christmas Tree Lighting in person. Because the event is free and doesn't require a ticket, it's recommended to arrive early to make sure you get a spot.
If you're busy Wednesday night, not to worry. The Rockefeller Center Christmas Tree will be on display the entire holiday season. After the initial lighting Wednesday night, the tree will be lit from 5:30 a.m. until 11:30 p.m. every day through Jan. 6, 2019. On its final day, Jan. 7, the tree will be lit from 5:30 a.m. until 9 p.m.
Each year, a tree is traditionally donated to be displayed in Rockefeller Center. This year's tree is a 72-foot tall, 12-ton Norway Spruce that hails from Wallkill, New York, coming from the home of Shirley Figueroa and Lissette Gutierrez, two New Yorkers who recently retired from jobs in the city and moved upstate.
Head Rockefeller Center gardener Erik Pauze first scouted the 75-year-old tree five years ago and his team has been preparing it for Wednesday's lighting since Nov. 8. The tree was trucked into Rockefeller Plaza on Nov. 10.
The tree's topper is a 9-foot, 4-inch tall Swarovski star designed by architect Daniel Libeskind, adorned with 3 million crystals across 70 triangular spikes and backlit by LED lights. Though it was placed atop the tree on Nov. 14, it will also be lit for the first time Wednesday night. A second identical star will be on display in Rockefeller Plaza next to a Swarovski pop-up shop.
The Comptroller encourages all taxpayers to support Texas businesses while saving money on tax-free purchases of most clothing, footwear, school supplies and backpacks (sold for less than $100) during the annual Tax-Free weekend. Qualifying items can be purchased tax free from a Texas store or from an online or catalog seller doing business in Texas. In most cases, you do not need to give the seller an exemption certificate to buy qualifying items tax free.
The sales tax exemption applies only to qualifying items you buy during the sales tax holiday. Items you buy before or after the sales tax holiday do not qualify for exemption, and there is no tax refund available.
The statute specifically excludes special clothing or footwear that is primarily designed for athletic activity or protective use and that is not normally worn except when used for the activity. Industrial or medical grade masks (e.g. N95 or other masks designed as personal protective equipment) or other similar personal protection equipment are not exempt during the sales tax holiday.
During the holiday you can buy qualifying items in-store, online, by telephone, mail, custom order, or any other means. The sale of the item must take place during the specific period. The purchase date is easy to determine when the purchase is made in-store but becomes more complicated with remote purchases. The purchaser must have given the consideration for the item during the period even if the item may not be delivered until after the period is over.
For example, if a purchaser enters their credit card information in an online shopping website on Sunday Aug. 11, 2024 at 5:00
p.m.to purchase qualifying school supplies, but the school supplies will not be shipped until Friday Aug. 16, 2024 and will not arrive until Tuesday Aug. 20, the purchase will still qualify for the exemption. However, if the charge to your credit card is declined by the payment processor at 11:00 p.m. on Sunday Aug. 11, 2024 and the purchaser does not resubmit payment until Monday Aug. 12, the purchase is taxable.
If the delivery charge is a flat rate per package, and the amount charged is the same regardless of how many items are included in the package, the total charge can be attributed to any one of the items in the package.
If you sold qualifying items tax free during the sales tax holiday, only include these tax-free sales in Total Texas Sales (Item 1) of your sales tax return. Do not include your tax-free sales in Taxable Sales (Item 2).

The NBC hit story of the life of country superstar Dolly Parton "Coat of Many Colors" led to a second film set during the holidays, "Christmas of Many Colors: Circle of Love." Both towns have film tours that show fans the real-life locations for places they've seen on big and small screens.
In the movie "Christmas on the Range," Kendall must fight to keep her family's ranch afloat when a rival family swoops in. But their charming son has her reconsidering everything. The movie stars Erin Cahill and Nicholas Gonzalez and was filmed in the North Georgia town of Clayton. In this made-for-television movie, a New York-based romance novelist looks for inspiration away from home after a series of career setbacks, but she finds more than content for her novel.
