Just wondering if there's any substantial difference b/w salting n padding ? particularly in case of one-way function..hmmm salting is something with hash functions and padding with cryptosystems ie symm / asymm.??

Yes, there is difference between Salting and Padding, Both have different objectives.
Nonce based encryption is example of Salting
