Hello everyone,

We are pleased to announce the release of Cryostat 4.0!

What’s new in 4.0?

  • Cryostat Agent

    • Init container: container-based distribution of the Cryostat agent that removes the need for downloading the agent JAR file from the Red Hat Maven repository.

    • Automatic configuration:

      • Previously, users needed to manually configure an Agent JAR file for each workload application. The Cryostat Operator is now able to mount a volume containing the agent JAR file through a simple label update in the application pod template.

      • Additional application pod configuration: Users have several configuration options available through label annotation. Users can specify containers to be used with the agent, configure agent read-only or write access to pods and much more.

  • Preset event templates

    • JFR support for Quarkus events: support added for the creation of JFR recordings based on Quarkus-specific framework-level events.

    • JFR support for Hibernate events: support added for the creation of JFR recordings based on Hibernate JFR events.

  • Dashboard enhancements: The Cryostat web console now includes a Diagnostics card that contains a ‘Start Garbage Collection’ button which instructs Cryostat to perform a manual garbage collection on a target JVM for diagnostic purposes.

  • Architectural improvements:

    • Database and storage containers: Database and storage are now decoupled, mitigating potential data loss and enabling seamless upgrades of the Cryostat server.

    • TLS connections: All HTTP and JDBC connections between Cryostat now use TLS by default, including Agent connections via automatic configuration, for enhanced data security.

    • TLS keystore password optional: TLS server setup no longer requires a keystore password, simplifying the automatic configuration of the Cryostat agent.

More details on these feature highlights can be found in our blog.

Where can I get the latest version of Cryostat?

You can install Cryostat using our Kubernetes operator on OperatorHub.io or via a Helm Chart. The 4.0 Helm Chart release will be a bit delayed this time around, so please watch its repository for updates.
