One of the things that we talk about all of the time, is volunteering.

Below is information that I received from one of the groups that I use to find Volunteer Organizations.
It sounds like they are having an event at Klyde Warren Park to showcase the NON-Profits that they work with.
If you don't have anything going on, it might be worth checking out.

thanks
Roy

The Volunteer Center of North Texas has a new name

The Volunteer Center of North Texas, one of the largest volunteer service organizations in the U.S., has a new name: VolunteerNow℠

VolunteerNow serves as the hub of volunteerism for North Texas and remains a national thought leader in volunteerism. North Texas volunteers served 1.2 million hours in 2014, generating a $28 million economic impact. VolunteerNow drove much of this impact by connecting 33,000 volunteers to 1,900 local nonprofits.

"Volunteering brings people together to serve others. The impact on the community can be as simple as serving a meal to the hungry or as complex as building a house for a family. The effects are both immediate and long-lasting, and the results make our communities a better place to live and work,” VolunteerNow CEO Tammy Richards said. “Our new name reflects how volunteers make a difference in their community, from collaborating with a team to working on their own directly with the nonprofit of their choice.”
Volunteers enable nonprofits to operate and deliver services that make our community a better place to live and work. Whether reading to preschoolers, building new homes or feeding the homeless, volunteers provide free labor—critical human resources and valuable human capital—to power nonprofits and fulfill their missions of serving others.
VOLY.org, powered by VolunteerNow, demonstrates our focus on volunteer innovation, impact and engagement. This innovative proprietary technology is the 24/7 virtual connection point between thousands of volunteers and regional service opportunities. Using this technology tool, we hope to mobilize 50,000 new volunteers over the next three years to benefit the North Texas community.

“VolunteerNow captures the forward-thinking energy and leadership we are committed to providing to North Texas,” Richards said. “VolunteerNow continues to drive the innovations necessary for local nonprofits to succeed by engaging volunteers.”

To celebrate the new name and VOLY.org’s impact on the region, VolunteerNow is hosting the second annual Voly in the Park on Saturday, June 6 at Klyde Warren Park. This free volunteer festival is family-friendly and will showcase 75 nonprofits that provide hands-on volunteer projects for all ages. Entertainment will also include musical groups, animal presentations, education information, dancing and more, all provided by area nonprofits.

“While VolunteerNow is a new name, we both honor and continue to build on our heritage of transforming communities through volunteerism,” Richards said. “We firmly believe in the power of volunteers to change everything, and we look forward to a vibrant future for the region that is powered by volunteers.”
