Up till now, aside from both players agreeing to a draw, there's been only one official draw rule -- where both sides use renewables to prevent any further change in the position. The "three draw-turns in a row" rule.

But it seems clear there are other situations that are worth including in a set of "draw rules":

1. One player joins a giant piece that touches two opposite sides of the board. Not so common in standard 6x6 crumble, but I played a game of 2x4 crumble where it came up fairly quickly.

2. One player swaps into a neighboring piece, leaving behind a configuration their opponent can use to reoccupy that same piece, which in turn 'renews' the first player's ability to occupy the piece again. Sort of a 'co-renewable', providing another "three-fold repetition" opportunity.

I wouldn't be surprised if there are other drawing conditions waiting to be identified.

Ultimately this is probably as it should be. Any draw rules we discover over time are likely to be fairly intuitive, even if their descriptions seem convoluted.

Be well,
Zack

Instead of defining draw rules we could just allow players to agree on a draw, although with limited time for a game this may not work and official draw rules would help.
Reminds me of a recent brilliant game by Magnus Karlsen :) https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=zVCst6vyV80

I saw that game on agadmator's channel. What a strange game! I wonder what the backstory was.

I like to codify them where possible. We can't assume the players are just playing a friendly game, so there have to be official ways that a drawn game can be brought to a conclusion. One player shouldn't be able to hold the other hostage if the game really can't be won.

They both advanced to the next round and didn't care.
