Rainy Days and Monday…
Today I can relate with Karen Carpenter, not because of the rain nor the Monday. Both are glorious as is the special treat of having family come to visit. Yet this morning as we were saying our goodbyes- a little wave of homesickness swept over me and got me a little down. Thankfully I know the perfect antidote, an extra helping of “Sunset By the Mississippi” tonight and all will be well!
We had a great visit and it was so wonderful to be in the temple with Darick, Rebecca, and Kiera. We squeezed in as much of the Nauvoo sights and performances as the 36 hours would allow. Sometimes sleep is such a nuisance! It was fun to watch some of the performances again with new eyes and to pick up a few we hadn’t seen. The Sunday evening Trail of Hope was so touching! We lined up on Parley Street and a Young Performing Missionary (Sister Camyrn Taylor from our home stake in Chandler) lantern in hand, led the way to hear the tragically beautiful stories of those who made that fateful trek as they were forced out of their homes and beloved city. Soft mournful violins accompanied their striking reenactment and we were seamlessly transported in time to February 1846. Each portrait of faith was courageously founded on a strong and unwavering testimony of Jesus Christ, His restored Gospel, and His chosen Prophet!!!
We followed the path down to the Mississippi with an invitation to put our faith and trust in God, even when the road ahead is terribly frightening and the journey seems long and difficult.
We did not have to put our feet into the water to see the Lord clear the way to pass like the children of Israel. Nor were we required to step out on to the ice and trust that it would support all that we hold most dear. Perhaps our River Jordan or Mississippi River is what ever is coming between us and a relationship with our Savior Jesus Christ, our promised land, our Zion!!! How blessed we are to live in the last days when the blessings of Jesus Christ’s Gospel are available to everyone!
John 17:3 “And this is life eternal, that they might know thee the only true God, and Jesus Christ, whom thou hast sent.”
Love you all and wish you a wonderful week!
