Hello and happy June!!!
When Rodgers and Hammerstein composed their lively song “June is Busting Out All Over” they must have been describing the Midwest!!! And they could have specifically been describing Nauvoo!!!
“June is bustin' out all over
All over the meadow and the hill
Buds are bustin' outta bushes
And the romping river pushes
Every little wheel that wheels beside a mill…”
The trees, the flowers, the wildlife that live around and in the Mighty Mississippi are putting on a spectacle!!! The fireflies dust the bushes with fairy lights at dusk, we try to successfully dodge turtles, toads, and families of deer, making their way across the highway. Our adorable Utah and Idaho neighbors in the “hood” have surprised us by filling our planters with gorgeous flowers that are literally “busting out all over!” They explained that our being from Arizona, we might not know how to plant spring flowers, sadly they aren’t wrong!!!
With the arrival of the young performing missionaries, the songs, dances, and stories of the restoration are “busting out all over” and filling every venue and shady park. We thrill to keep up with the Nauvoo Band as they march down Main Street in the morning. We follow an intense schedule of performances throughout the day, and thrill each evening as the entertainer’s music and dance, kiss the “Sunset on the Mississippi.”
Once again we find ourselves transported in time to the 1840s as we cry with the “Sisters in Zion” and the missionary widows like Phebe Woodruff. We marvel at the faith and courage of those first missionaries like Samuel Smith in “The Spirit of God” held in the Seventies Hall Our souls are uplifted by beautiful harmonies of the “Songs of the Heart” and our testimonies nourished as the young performers rejoice in song speak honestly of standing true to their covenants in the latter days, on the Sunday evening performance of “Love of the Savior!”
With any luck, next week we will do it all again!
The temple continues to be our priority and somehow we are able to find time to enjoy this special place where every day is a special gift!
Deuteronomy 5: 2 The Lord our God made a covenant with us…3 even us, who are all of us here alive this day.
We wish you all 30 fabulous days of June!
“Because it's June!
June, June, June
Just because it's June, June, June!”
Love you all, come and enjoy with us!
