I have heard the 158.400 station from time to time.  I have another possibly illegal operation to report as well.

 

151.940 MHz. Carrier Squelch

 

Base to mobile operations, very informal and CB terms used often as well as obscene language.  The last time I monitored, I got the impression the base was located in Rensselaer County, possibly Averill Park?  The truck followed a route which he described over the air as NY 43 to I90 to I787 to Front Street, where he had to be at a certain time.  No other obvious ID or info given.  Conversations typically revolve around the trucking industry and truck repairs.

 

For those who may be unaware, 151.940 is a MURS channel, limited to one or two watts output power.  I was hearing both sides of this conversation in Latham for the majority of the conversation.  Units must be running more than two watts.

Several local scanner listeners have been trying to figure out what is
being transmitted on 158.400 MHz in the Albany area. Evidently this
station has received a lot of attention.

I received an email about this transmitter the other day:

mobiles 158.4000 218.1 02/24/07

This Guy is running a illegal repeater on this freq (need input freq)
linked at times to a ham repeater somewhere in Troy. Has canned voice
reporters on it also. (alert zone one etc....)Can hear all the way down
here in greene county. Popularwireless has a lot on this to. "
