Good day  all
Here is my take on M81 and M82
10.5 hrs  at 5 min exposure. Bit of a challenge with twilight.
Though guiding was excellent 0.45 to 0.70.

Hope you like it.
Thanks for viewing it.
Kevin

Hi Kevin.  That is excellent detail, with the long total exposure and deft processing to thank.

Hi Kevin

An excellent image of M81 and M82 which has lovely detail and beautifully balanced colour in both galaxies.

I agree with James that the long exposure time has definitely helped here as has your excellent processing.

Well done!

You’re very welcome Kevin

I’ve also been catching up with your image of the M13 globular cluster in Hercules. That’s another very nice image of this famous summer target. I think that globular clusters are quite difficult to image because their cores are very bright, but the peripheral stars are much less bright. It’s difficult to balance the large difference in contrast between the two areas, but you have managed it admirably in your image. You’ve also captured the blue colour of the hot young stars in the cluster, so very well done!

Can I ask, I thought it was strange to see blue stars there, so that is normal?

It is normal although unexpected, given that globular clusters are thought to be very ancient and don’t contain any new star forming material.
