Here's another Sun Today, 26 June 2024.  The novelty of cloudless daytime skies hasn't yet worn off.

The image shows an almost detached prominence on the left edge.  Also significant are the 'plages', the white over exposed areas in the image, which to quote the US National Space Observatory are:

"bright emissions that characterise the Chromosphere, the layer of the Sun between the 'surface' (it's a gaseous object), or Photosphere, and the upper atmosphere or Corona.   Plages could hold the key to understanding how energy is transported into the Chromosphere, which is a long standing issue".

The orientation of the image matches ESA/NASA's SOHO (Solar and Heliospheric Observatory) image of the 'Sun now'.  SOHO is a spacecraft launched in 1995 with several instruments on board imaging at different wavelenghts.  It's  a good source for what's happening with Sun.

Lunt 60 Ha with ZWO asi 178.  Processing used the usual tools but also a new process in Pixinsight called the Solar Toolbox.

This link to the SOHO site provides sunspot numbers.
