Terence - CrowdVC definitely seems too have an interesting model and I would like to connect with you on Skype sometime to get a better understanding of what the stage of evolution of the project is, what sorts of deals you have actually funded using this model etc..

It would be great to get clarification on what you mean by:
  • Community Powered Capital
  • ComCommunity Development Fund/Community Investment Bonds
  • Open Capital

Please add CrowdVC to the mix and feel free to to add to the taxonomy - I've given you edit rights!

Thanks for your interest!

Hi Suresh,

The fist thing that came to mind is that Crowd VC is, I believe, the only crowdfunding platform designed as plug-able for each of the 4 major types of funding stream alternatives - pledge, lending, revenue-share and equity models, plus several different types of payment gateway including PayPal, M-Pesa, Bitcoin and Orange Money etc.  We also will include different payment gateways such as Cube Points etc., which are non-monitory, similar to BeEx.org (i.e. work effort and contribution), to boost participation in the community.  In Stage-1 of our plan we will fund social investment projects via Community Powered Capital directly from our federated Crowd VC sites. In Stage-2 we will introduce Angel and Venture Capital funding through our relationship with Grow VC. In Stage-3 of our growth - as one of the goals of the Grow VC platform is to develop a scheme to repatriate funds earned abroad by each country’s Diaspora, and of transmitting that capital at no or ultra low cost - the appropriate method for this transaction will be behind either Community Development Fund/Community Investment Bonds or Open Capital, in which anyone can invest.  So there would be, from my point of view, several taxonomy additions to make, if you agree.

Terence.

No problem! It would be great if we all work together on this and share data... If you are compiling your own list, would you be willing to add to this... in service of the greater good ;-)

Sure Suresh, buy all means, Skype me whenever you feel like a chat.  I work crazy hours.

The project is at a very early stage and is not due to beta until November.

The idea behind "Community Powered Capital" is that its a form of crowdfunding - one which is specifically focused on social enterprise - and it deliberately sets out to distance itself from mono-stream 'pledge' based, top-10 commercial and private cause crowdfunding platforms.

You can get an idea from the configuration of CrowdVC and its multiple funding stream engines, because of the nature of what it will be used for and who it will be used by, it sets out to offer many alternative ways of giving, funding and investing.  In stage-3 we will include other mechanisms like "Community Development Fund or Community Investment Bonds" (not quite sure which yet),  and Open Capital is just one more of those additional options.  And you can read all about the theory of Open Capital here from Chris Cook, who is far better at explaining it than me.

As soon as I get a minute I will add our 'special' functions to the taxonomy and I think I am going to have to expand it somewhat to cover a number of functions/features which are peculiar to CrowdVC.

Terence.

Greetings, Suresh,

The chart on Crowdfunding platforms and the taxonomy definitions is great.

FirstGiving and Crowdrise are two that I would suggest need to be added.  (I might find others?).  Both deal largely in the not-for-profit communities.

For me, I can load from one link the chart to a separate webpage -- but not via Google docs.  And it does not appear in my Google Docs list.   Via another link in these various threads -- I am told (by Google docs) I don't have permission to access.  Though, I might have confused things and been trying to link to something of Terence's??

As this field is rapidly growing, it is a challenge to be familiar with all aspects or possibilities.  The team process seems especially developed or sophisticated at FirstGiving (see this example:   http://www.firstgiving.com/meditationmarathon/fundraisers)  And I wonder if some new column needs to be added about these activities.   I think they are different than "Online Community and/or collaboration" -- but maybe not.   Crowdrise has a more limited variation on this   -- which I find more than awkward.

                    Best, Ariel

Hey Ariel,

I just gave you edit rights a second ago. I am only adding people that express a direct interest...You now should be able to add data and also create new taxonomy columns.

My suggestion to both you and Terence is to, at this stage, add new columns that you think reflect what you want to represent. At some point we might need to completely redo the model as there might be redundancies.

Part of what we are learning in this process is how to openly collaborate on the development of taxonomies. Since everyone has a different perspective, different reasons for building the taxonomy etc. they will have different approaches and priorities. I think phase I is just gathering lots of information. We can process the info at a later stage.

Thanks for your interest!

Suresh
