Openings:
The Social Sensing & Intelligence (SSI) Lab at the School of Information Sciences (iSchool) at the University of Illinois (
https://ischool.illinois.edu) has multiple openings for Postdoctoral Research Associate to work under the guidance of Dr. Dong Wang (https://www.wangdong.org) from Fall 2024.


Prospective candidates must have finished their requirements for their Ph.D. prior to July 1, 2024. Candidates in Computer Science, Information Science, Artificial Intelligence, and Data Science are encouraged to apply. Successful candidates will have the opportunity to work on exciting research projects in emerging areas of Social Sensing & Intelligence. Example topics include:

(1) Human-centered AI, Human-AI interaction, and AI for Social Good

(2) Generative AI, Trustworthy AI, and XAI

(3) Crowdsourcing/Crowdsensing, Social Media, and Misinformation Detection

(4) Privacy, Robustness, and FATE (Fairness, Accountability, Transparency, Ethics)

 

Preferred candidates should have a strong publication record in top venues (see the examples below) in at least one of the following areas: crowdsourcing/AI/human-centered computing/HCI/machine learning/social media. Preferred candidates are also expected to be very self-motivated and have great leadership and communication skills.

 

The Social Sensing & Intelligence Lab has state-of-the-art computing facilities to support research. Our works are published in top AI/machine learning and systems venues such as AAAI, IJCAI, Web Conference (WWW), ACL, INFOCOM, RecSys, CIKM, CSCW, HCOMP, ICWSM, IWQoS, IPSN, ASONAM, IEEE TCSS, TBD, TIST, TETC, IoT Journal, Elsevier KBS, etc. The lab also has a very collaborative working environment and provides individualized mentorships and tailored career plans for students and postdocs in the lab.

Stipend
The stipend for the 2024-2025 year is at least $62,000 (for a 12-month appointment) commensurate with experience and responsibilities and includes health benefits.
An additional $2,000 is provided for research, travel, and related expenses.
