Kepware's Manufacturing Suite provides industry professionals with a comprehensive list of drivers at an affordable price. It includes access to all of our standard drivers for use on a single PC/Machine. The Manufacturing Suite allows you to automatically connect to devices on the shop floor, read and write data to those devices, and fully integrate that data into your HMI, SCADA, MES, Historian, or ERP system. KEPServerEX delivers a unique architecture for suites and any additional drivers added to a suite. There is one communications server to manage, one name space, and one set of diagnostics. That's why Kepware is number one.

A suite is a collection of drivers and plug-ins for KEPServerEX. These products have been bundled into suites by vertical industry, device manufacturer, or industrial application for the convenience of our customers. Additional suites can be licensed on demand as connectivity needs evolve.

One of the most common questions when dealing with a cloud based project tender is the question of how much bandwidth does Kepware consume? A question like this is difficult to answer because of a myriad of factors that will play a part in determining the amount of traffic.

As an industrial connectivity platform, database connectivity is something often required. Having Kepware sending data into databases are some of the key operation that we can do. In this post, I will cover on how we can :

In the context of the post, I will create a dedicated user for the connection and limit the access the user have on the database. This can be done using the login/group roles of PGAdmin ( A tool to manage the database)

The datalogger plugin requires the use of the respective third party ODBC Driver. In our use case, I am going to provided data to an PostGres Database. The download link for postgres are listed here :

In training systems or development systems, it can be helpful to playback a set of data to trace or identify possible issues. The advanced simulator driver allows for a set of data in and ODBC Database to be played back.

Complete the wizard and create the device. Keep everything as default (Note, there is a need to swap the device model from generic to my SQL if you are using mySQL) and proceed until the table selection. Choose the table you need (kepwarewide in my case):

Once that is done, the tags should be automatically configured. The driver playbacks the data as long as there is a client reading it. If there are no client reading the device, the pointer is moved back to the first record.

In a scenario where there might be a third party database you will like to access to and read, you can leverage the ODBC driver. When used in conjunction with plugins such as the advanced tag, it is possible to build a small system where the PLC and Database and interact with one another.

The ODBC driver offers you the flexibility to read a fixed or dynamic table, run a SQL query at an interval or trigger a stored procedure. For this post, lets try to read the table of data from the datalogger. I will select fixed table and point it to my narrow table:

The key benefit by conforming to the required syntax is that the watson platform automatically recognizes the formats and can be quickly used within the services. For example, in the dashboarding, you can see that the tags are quickly recognized as a drop down in the charts:
