Hey City Group,

We will be meeting with our Burmese families on Thursday evening at 6:00pm.  They mentioned wanting to know more about where they are, maps, signs, etc.  So that's what we'll do. We're going to bring some sign pictures, maps, pictures of important places and help them know where they are.

I will work on some maps
Erin is working on printing signs

Any ideas on how to make this into a game/lesson?
Any ideas on what else would help them understand their physical surroundings?

Thanks,
Steven

We could bring a big pad of paper to draw roads on and some matchbox cars to illustrate the road signs and what they mean.  Is that dumb?  I was trying to think of a visual way to show what the signs mean.  I can bring all of this stuff, and the printouts of the signs!

I also wanted to let all of you know that Jose's parents' church in Pleasant Hill is hosting an English As A Second Language Training Workshop March 29-31.  This could be a great opportunity for some of us to get some knowledge about Teaching ESL in an effective way, so we don't have to rely on Jenilee as much, even though we are so blessed to have your skills available of course Jenilee!!
Jose and I are planning to take it.  It is a significant time commitment, but they are trying to schedule it in a way that works with peoples schedules. I also understand it could be a challenge to get all the way out to Pleasant Hill (about 40 minutes from downtown) but maybe people could carpool, and perhaps we could host a little bbq at the Martinez house Saturday after the workshop!  It costs $45 if you register by Mar. 7, $50 after that.  Let me know if any of you are interested and I will get us signed up!!

Great opportunity!  Thanks Erin!  I'm not sure I will be available due to it being so close to my due date, but I'll talk to Steven about it further :)  Also, I have one of those rugs with roads on it that kids push their matchbox cars on . . . should I bring this to help with demonstrating signals and stops?

Scott and I have an event for his work on Thursday.  Your ideas sound great though.  Wish I could be there.
