Clearly I don't understand the functionality of the Time Trial setup.  I don't seem to be able to consistently execute races - in testing or in real life.  Very frustrating.

First, it seems as though even though I put StartTime in the Excel sheet it is at best hit or miss.  So I usually have to manually import start times ... from the same file!  LOL
Second, I don't get the "race start time" in Properties.  What does it do?  To me it seems that it should actually start the race.  I got burned on this Friday in one event ... my manual start of the clock put me off 17 seconds and so all race starters were 17 seconds late which while no big deal makes for an unprofessional race.

Lets start with I am not complaining ... I just don't get how this all works.  I did figure out that if you have extra bodies in the file but no start time that the Web start list and count down screens just do random shit.  Next, I managed to start a race and it somehow treated every read as a start time even though I had checked the box that "prevents this"  So we ended up just keeping those times and then manually adjusting everyone to the correct start ... and then the old start time was the finish.  Just a lot of work.

So I am asking, how do you do this?  Set up the start file.  So I start everyone at one min intervals beginning 2 min after you start the race.  Seems simple.  What do I set the race start time in the Properties tab or does it matter.  Can I set the race up  to start iteslf at a specific time?  Or is that a fools errand?

Final comment - all the racers loved the countdown timer ... several said it made them feel pro.

Craig, can you let me know what you found out.   I am using CrossMgr for a TT in August and I have never timed one this way before.  I am assuming that if I put a start time in the excel spreadsheet and my computer clock is synched with the start clock it will automatically start the riders at the correct time.  Is that not what you experienced.

Thanks,

Tom

i use TT all the time.. if you are using the same start finish you don't have to put a time in.. it automatically uses first read as start.  If you are not then I find the easiest way to put the times in is start :30 then 1:30 then 2:00 etc.  this way, i have an open radio (or phone) to start at the even.. meaning 9:00 am start time.. first rider goes off at 09:00:30.. so if you are late for any reason.. the first rider goes off 30 after they decided to go..   I also use the start clock.  I screen record it prior to going to event.. then have it out at the start so they know who is going and have a start count down..

hope that helps a bit

A bit more complicated but it works.

You put in the start time in the spreadsheet - actually you use the offset from the "start of the race".  It doesn't take actual times.
Then you need to either manually start the race or put in the start time.

I wish they did this different - but to fit the current system we put the race start at 2 minutes before the first rider goes off.  That way you have time to sync the starting iPad, etc which you cannot do until the race actually starts.

So lets say you want the first ride off at 9am.  You set race start early, say 8:58.  Do your housekeeping.  Make the first offset 2 minutes, second 3 minutes, etc.

To start things properly, when you create or open the race, you still need to import start times.  My mistake was I thought it did this automatically because I put the times in my race spreadsheet. Nope.

Test it a few times.  If you have the box clicked to start the race automatically at a future time it all just happens.  But test it.  Good thing is that if something goes sideways they system stores everything.  So my first event it recorded all the finish times as start times.  I had to manually adapt BUT I still got the results.  The second event of the day ... perfect.

Just bear in mind that if you use (eg) a tablet as your countdown clock that the clock itself runs in the browser and is not synched to the CrossMgr machine.
