I am sure others will chime in. My $0.02 follows:
Overall:
CrossMgr counts laps and records times. It ranks by the number of laps completed, then the finish time.
Configuration:
In the CrossMgr spreadsheet, set the Team name as the Last Name. Leave the Team and First Name blank.
Bibs:
Give all the team members the same bib number. This will be important later.
Using RFID:
Give all team members the same chip code on their bike. Or, if easier, give each rider a separate code.
If separate codes, you can have up to 10 codes that will be considered part of the same entry (Tag, Tag1, Tag2, Tag3, ... Tag9).
Any of those tags will be considered part of the team.
Check the CrossMgr help for full details.
In the RFID section, set the "Minimums Possible Lap Time" to be something like 3/4 the length of a lap.
Still, keep riders away from congregating around the finish line and getting too many spurious reads.
I recommend putting an exchange zone about 50m after the finish line.
This will be a natural place for riders to congregate away from the finish.
Entering Bibs manually:
You didn't say how many entrants you have.
If you don't expect large groups finishing together, a pure manual approach could work great, and is easier and cheaper.
Just enter the bib numbers as the riders cross the line.
CrossMgr predicts arriving bib numbers automatically.
Often, you only need to enter bib numbers on the first lap, then click them off the list for the remainder of a race.
But, if you have different riders on a team, this doesn't work as well.
Limitations:
In both the RFID and Manual methods, laps are only recorded for the team.
Laps by individual team members are not indicated on the results.
Some folks have asked for this (somehow). Currently the software doesn't do it.
